Program Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a program manager in Texas?
Most program manager roles in Texas require a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related field combined with several years of progressively responsible project or program experience. Texas does not issue a state license for program managers, but employers consistently prioritize the Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute. Defense and government contractors in Texas often require additional security clearance eligibility, making federal experience a meaningful differentiator.
Which companies hire program managers in Texas?
Employers hiring program managers in Texas right now include Amazon, Apple, and Burns & McDonnell, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of defense contractors, large hospital systems, and Fortune 500 technology headquarters means demand for program managers is distributed across multiple sectors rather than tied to a single industry.
Which Texas cities have the most program manager jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas have the most program manager openings in Texas. Houston's energy, healthcare, and aerospace sectors, Dallas's concentration of corporate headquarters and financial services firms, and Austin's fast-growing technology industry each create sustained demand that keeps those metros consistently at the top of the listings.
Are there remote program manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 13% of program manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based and coordination-heavy nature of the work. The roles most likely to be fully remote are those in IT program management and enterprise software delivery, while defense, construction, and on-site operations roles almost always require an in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a program manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a program coordinator or project coordinator role, which Texas employers across healthcare, technology, and defense use as a feeder position for program managers. Large Texas hospital networks and systems integrators regularly hire coordinators without extensive prior experience and promote from within. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential while in that coordinator role accelerates the transition and signals readiness for full program management responsibilities.
Where can I find and apply to program manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to program manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to the ones that match.
