Engineering Technician – Facilities & Maintenance

Reports To: Engineering Manager
Compensation: $24-$30 per hour (DOE)
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Thursday 10:00AM -6:30PM & Friday 9:00AM-5:30PM.

VPI Compounding Pharmacy is looking for a hands-on Engineering Technician – Facilities & Maintenance to support the equipment, utilities, and facility systems that keep our pharmacy operations running safely and efficiently.

This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, working with mechanical systems, and solving day-to-day facility and equipment issues. You will work closely with our Engineering team in a unique pharmaceutical environment while gaining experience with cleanrooms, specialized equipment, preventative maintenance programs, and regulated facility operations.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment & Preventative Maintenance

• Perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs on facility and pharmacy support equipment.
• Troubleshoot common mechanical, equipment, and facility issues and help minimize operational downtime.
• Support maintenance of equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, pumps, autoclaves, BSCs, LAFWs, and other systems as trained.
• Assist with developing and maintaining preventative maintenance schedules.
• Identify recurring equipment or facility issues and communicate repair or replacement needs.

Facility & Utility Support

• Perform general facility repairs involving plumbing, electrical fixtures, doors, drywall, flooring, and other building systems.
• Monitor HVAC equipment and complete basic preventative maintenance such as filter changes and routine inspections.
• Support water, drainage, temperature, pressure, and other facility utility systems.
• Assist with equipment moves, installations, and facility improvement projects.

Vendor & Engineering Support

• Coordinate with the Engineering Manager and outside vendors when specialized repairs or services are required.
• Assist with cleanroom, HVAC, equipment, and facility projects as assigned.
• Help track maintenance requests, completed work, recurring issues, and vendor follow-up.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.

Safety & Compliance

• Complete maintenance activities safely and in accordance with company procedures.
• Follow applicable cGMP, cleanroom, safety, and facility requirements.
• Assist with routine checks of facility safety equipment and emergency systems.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas and properly document completed maintenance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot common equipment and facility issues.
• Experience with preventative maintenance programs preferred.
• Experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare, laboratory, manufacturing, food production, or another regulated environment is a plus, but not required.
• Experience with HVAC, plumbing, basic electrical work, pumps, motors, utilities, or similar systems preferred.
• Comfortable using spreadsheets, maintenance logs, or CMMS systems.
• Strong organization, communication, problem-solving, and follow-through.
• Willingness to learn specialized pharmacy and cleanroom equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to climb ladders and perform bending, reaching, kneeling, and other physical maintenance activities.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability and willingness to gown and work within cleanroom environments when needed.
