Engineering Design Manager Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering design manager in Colorado?
Most engineering design managers in Colorado follow a path starting with a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, followed by several years of hands-on design or systems work before moving into team leadership. While Colorado does not require a management-specific license, many employers in aerospace and defense prefer candidates who hold or are pursuing Professional Engineer licensure through the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors. Building a portfolio of cross-functional project leadership strengthens candidacy considerably.
Which companies hire engineering design managers in Colorado?
Employers hiring engineering design managers in Colorado right now include STONHARD, MM Solutions, and Sierra Space, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Colorado's aerospace corridor along the Front Range means defense contractors and space systems companies represent a particularly consistent share of engineering design manager openings.
Which Colorado cities have the most engineering design manager jobs?
Denver, Loveland, and Lone Tree have the most engineering design manager openings in Colorado. Denver draws the broadest volume across aerospace, energy, and advanced manufacturing, while Colorado Springs reflects the concentration of defense contractors and military installations in that region, and Boulder's research and space technology sector adds consistent demand outside the two larger metros.
Are there remote engineering design manager jobs in Colorado?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields. About 100% of engineering design manager openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the hands-on coordination these roles typically require with design teams, labs, and production floors. The portions of the role most amenable to remote work are design review, project planning, and stakeholder reporting rather than day-to-day team supervision.
How can I get hired as a engineering design manager in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a senior individual contributor role at a Colorado aerospace or manufacturing employer and building a record of leading projects informally before moving into a formal management title. Large Colorado employers like Lockheed Martin and Raytheon often post senior engineer roles that include team coordination responsibilities, which function as proving grounds for design manager candidates. Obtaining an Engineer-in-Training designation through Colorado's licensing board and completing a project management credential signals readiness for leadership and distinguishes candidates without prior management titles.
Where can I find and apply to engineering design manager jobs in Colorado?
