Environmental Attorney Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a environmental attorney in Florida?
To practice as an environmental attorney in Florida, you must be admitted to the Florida Bar, which requires graduating from an ABA-accredited law school, passing the Florida Bar Examination administered by the Florida Board of Bar Examiners, and completing the Character and Fitness review. Most candidates strengthen their candidacy by concentrating in environmental or administrative law during law school, pursuing a clinic or externship with a Florida agency such as the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and building familiarity with Florida's unique water law and land use frameworks.
Which companies hire environmental attorneys in Florida?
Employers hiring environmental attorneys in Florida right now include State of Florida, Healthcare Services, and CDM Smith, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Florida's robust development, energy, and agricultural sectors drive consistent demand across law firms, in-house corporate legal teams, and state regulatory agencies.
Which Florida cities have the most environmental attorney jobs?
Tampa, Miami, and Orlando have the most environmental attorney openings in Florida. Miami anchors demand through large law firms handling coastal development and international environmental transactions, Tampa draws openings from energy companies and port-related regulatory work, and Tallahassee concentrates state agency positions and lobbying practices centered on Florida's administrative and regulatory bodies.
Are there remote environmental attorney jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based legal fields, since environmental attorneys frequently attend site inspections, agency hearings, and depositions in person. About 9% of environmental attorney openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with hybrid arrangements more common than fully remote. Legal research, contract drafting, and compliance counseling are the functions most frequently performed remotely when flexibility is offered.
How can I get hired as a environmental attorney in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a staff attorney or associate position at a Florida law firm with an environmental practice group, where you handle research and drafting under supervision while building substantive knowledge. Large firms including Holland & Knight and Greenberg Traurig run associate programs that hire recent Florida Bar admittees. Government entry points such as the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and regional water management districts regularly hire junior attorneys for enforcement and permitting roles. Completing a law school environmental law clinic or a judicial externship with a Florida administrative law judge strengthens any application significantly.
Where can I find and apply to environmental attorney jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to environmental attorney jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current Florida openings across law firms, corporations, and government agencies. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and practice interests, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
