Equipment Maintenance Technician Jobs in Idaho: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a equipment maintenance technician in Idaho?
Most Idaho employers hire equipment maintenance technicians who hold a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or a related field from a program at institutions like College of Western Idaho or Idaho State University. There is no state-issued license specifically for general equipment maintenance technicians in Idaho. Employers prioritize hands-on coursework, OSHA safety training, and vendor certifications in areas like PLCs or hydraulics over any single credential.
Which companies hire equipment maintenance technicians in Idaho?
Companies currently hiring equipment maintenance technicians in Idaho include Micron Technology, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, and City of Pocatello, ID, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Idaho's food processing and semiconductor manufacturing sectors generate the most consistent openings, particularly along the Treasure Valley corridor from Nampa to Boise.
Which Idaho cities have the most equipment maintenance technician jobs?
Boise, Lewiston, and Blackfoot have the most equipment maintenance technician openings in Idaho. Boise and Nampa dominate because of the dense concentration of food processing plants, technology manufacturers, and distribution centers in the Treasure Valley, while Pocatello draws technician demand from agricultural equipment manufacturers and industrial facilities in southeastern Idaho.
Are there remote equipment maintenance technician jobs in Idaho?
Yes, but they're rare. Equipment maintenance technician work is fundamentally hands-on and tied to physical machinery, so remote arrangements are uncommon for most roles. About 17% of equipment maintenance technician openings tied to Idaho are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions typically involve technical support, documentation, or parts procurement rather than direct equipment servicing.
How can I get hired as a equipment maintenance technician in Idaho with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a two-year industrial maintenance or mechatronics program at College of Western Idaho or Idaho State University, which both offer hands-on lab training that Idaho manufacturers recognize. Large food processing employers like Lamb Weston and Amalgamated Sugar run apprenticeship-style programs where new hires start in production technician or machine operator roles before moving into dedicated maintenance positions. Earning an OSHA 10 card and a basic PLC certification before applying gives candidates a measurable edge over those without any credential.
Where can I find and apply to equipment maintenance technician jobs in Idaho?
You can find and apply to equipment maintenance technician jobs in Idaho on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search for roles that match your experience level and specialties, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
