General Summary:
Operates and maintains a variety of light and heavy motor equipment used in the collection, transporting and disposal of Solid Waste at a designated landfill.
Competencies for Successful Performance of Job Duties:
- Working knowledge of material recovery facility, landfill operations, convenience center operations and a working knowledge of safety operations.
- Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment. Heavy equipment such as Bulldozer, Compactor, Front-end loader, and Tri-axle, and Roll-Off trucks, Off-Road Truck; mechanical equipment; riding mower, air tank, push mower, and sprayers, other motorized vehicles and equipment: high production, high-density baler, sorting line.
- Ability to accurately screen in-coming wastes; ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and regulatory agencies.
- Must possess working knowledge of department terminology; working knowledge of sanitary landfill operations and requirements; working knowledge of safety operations. Skill in operating the necessary landfill equipment. Ability to accurately compile and portray complex data; ability to establish an effective working relationship with other employees, supervisors, and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions; ability to observe proper safety precautions; ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public; ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions and the ability to drive and operate a variety of light and heavy equipment under varying conditions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalency
- 1 to 3 years’ experience
Required Licenses, Skills or Certifications
- A valid Driver’s or ability to obtain one and CDL/ Class B License, if requested.
