Maxwood Furniture is looking for a Senior Inventory Planning & Purchasing Manager to lead inventory forecasting, purchasing, and long-term inventory optimization strategy across our growing multi-brand business. Ecommerce channels are a fast-growing segment of our company, and as our product portfolio continues to expand, strong inventory planning and procurement processes are more important than ever.
This role will be responsible for ensuring inventory is planned, purchased, and positioned effectively across our warehouse network to support customer demand while minimizing excess inventory and operational risk. The ideal candidate will bring structure, visibility, and continuous improvement to inventory planning and purchasing processes while partnering closely with product, marketing, warehousing, finance, and operations teams.
This is a highly collaborative and hands-on role within a fast-moving, growth-oriented environment. We are looking for someone who is highly detail oriented, analytical, and comfortable operating both strategically and tactically. The right person will be able to lead through influence while staying close to the data and day-to-day execution.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own and formalize the demand forecasting process and continuously monitor forecast changes
- Assess the impact of forecast changes to the overall demand and production plan
- Lead modeling and analysis of demand forecasting and operations to ensure sufficient capacity is available for growth
- Own and refine the master production schedule to align with Maxwood’s demand plan
- Oversee purchasing and procurement activities, ensuring alignment with demand plans, supplier capacity, and business priorities
- Lead purchase order planning and execution, ensuring orders are placed on time, in full, and aligned with forecasted demand
- Manage inventory levels to maintain strong in-stock positions while minimizing excess and aging inventory
- Plan and optimize inventory allocation across multiple warehouse locations and 3PL partners to ensure product is positioned correctly to support demand while minimizing transit time and cost
- Partner closely with product, marketing, warehousing, and finance teams to align forecasts, inventory plans, and business priorities
- Establish and track key inventory metrics including in-stock percentage, inventory turns, and aging
- Identify risks early, including stockouts, overstock, and delays, and drive solutions proactively
- Develop and oversee strategies for managing excess and slow-moving inventory, including liquidation planning and execution
- Drive process improvements by implementing scalable and documented procedures
- Evaluate and improve forecasting and planning tools to increase efficiency and reduce manual work
- Provide clear reporting and visibility to leadership on inventory performance and risks
- Support additional supply chain management and related initiatives as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- 7+ years of experience in planning, purchasing, or supply chain within high-volume product environments
- Strong experience with demand forecasting, inventory management, and purchasing/procurement
- Experience managing inventory across multiple warehouse locations or distribution networks
- Experience developing strategies for excess or slow-moving inventory is a plus
- Advanced skills using Microsoft Office including Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
- Advanced Excel proficiency required
- Experience with planning software such as Netstock, Stock IQ, or Netsuite is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to build or improve planning and purchasing processes and systems
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into actionable decisions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work cross-functionally
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment with changing priorities
