Job Description Summary
The Operations Director – Heart & Vascular Integrated Center of Clinical Excellence (ICCE) reports to the System Administrative Officer. The Operations Director is responsible for partnering with ICCE Leadership to align and execute the strategy of the H&V ICCE. The Operations Director oversees and provides leadership for all strategic program development activities for their areas of responsibility. This role interacts proactively with other directors, leaders, physicians, nurses, and other members of the health care delivery team to achieve desired outcomes. The Operations Director not only represents areas under their direct responsibility but also provides leadership around organization-wide initiatives to improve patient care, clinical effectiveness, and patient access and to optimize patient experience and quality.

Job Description
The Operations Director reports to the System Administrative Officer. The Operations Director is responsible for partnering with ICCE Leadership to align and execute the strategy and Business Development plan of the H&V ICCE. Under limited supervision, the Operations Director oversees and provides leadership for all strategic program development activities for their areas of responsibility. This role interacts proactively with other directors, leaders, physicians, nurses, and other members of the health care delivery team to achieve desired outcomes.
The Operations Director not only represents areas under their direct responsibility but also provides leadership around organization-wide initiatives to improve patient care, clinical effectiveness, and patient access and to optimize patient experience and quality.
Performance Excellence - 25%
- Work closely with ICCE SAOs, Directors, and Managers to develop realistic projections and operational plans to ensure optimal performance across all scorecard domains
- Lead, develop, and coordinate all operational and contribution margin reviews with key operational leaders
- Collaborate as needed with COM, MUSCP, and MUHA Finance & Accounting departments, CFOs, and other appropriate resources to project accurate volume, revenue, and expense budgets each fiscal year and other times when adjustments are required due to market demands
- Assist ICCE Leadership to initiate corrective action plans for any performance variance or other OFIs identified
- Identify performance variances and recommend remedial actions
Performance Management - 25%
- Participate in development of financial/operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Develop, supervise, and/or coordinate preparation, maintenance, and execution of all analyses on the performance of KPIs under all pillars
- Monitor operational/financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for performance purposes
- Management of performance in conjunction with direct leadership to achieve all operational targets and the achievement of designated project timelines
- Track, plan, and participate on opportunities to increase volumes across functional areas
- Coordination with BIOS Performance Management to understand and develop plans toward top decile performance compared to benchmark on financial/operational areas
- Ensure the integrity/credibility of all analyses presented that drive operational scopes of work and approved system projects
- Active engagement with the VAT system to reduce supply and purchased services cost as applicable to the ICCE
- Monitors supply costs and routinely communicates with Central Supply Chain team related to opportunities to create cost efficiencies
System & Operational Planning - 25%
- Participate in the development of system plans and various forms of analyses to support growth plans and opportunities to increase revenue sources or referral base
- Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders including ambulatory leaders, budget analysts, UHN/RHN, and practice plan leaders, external benchmarking sources, and any other appropriate resources to create operational and project plans that will lead to systemic growth
- Assist in the development of strategy analysis for current and new business programs
- Partner with Central Finance team(s) to develop and present draft pro formas to FEC and other appropriate committee(s) for approval, assessment, and implementation of business plans
- Conduct market needs assessment and analysis in collaboration with Strategy team to determine prioritization and impact of strategic and operational initiatives
- Partner with appropriate stakeholders, including COM and MUSCP Health Partners, to develop multi-year forecasts of physician recruitment and departures for all Divisions
- Work with system leaders to collaborate on driving ambulatory efficiencies and optimization
- Experience driving ambulatory clinic efficiencies and optimization
Project Management - 25%
- Present and explain growth and financial data in conjunction with strategic activities and future goals
- Identify and initiate projects which aid in coordination and development of operational efficiencies
- Lead work teams for various projects and present draft and final product to appropriate leadership as requested
- Work collaboratively with System and Division leaders to ensure all system and operational plans are executed within prescribed timeframes
- Maintain effective communication with MUSC Health leaders across the system
- Monitor and provide feedback to the ICCE leadership on the status of operational/project plans
- Participate on various division and system teams as appropriate
- Act as lead on managing “operational change” with known KPI’s and course corrections
Additional Job Description
Education: Master's preferred; Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Work Experience: 10 years progressive work experience and 5 years management experience.
