Mid Level Estimator Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level estimator job?
Position yourself around the bids and projects you have owned independently, not just supported. Highlight experience with takeoffs, cost databases, and subcontractor coordination. Tailor your resume to the sector you are targeting, whether construction, manufacturing, or another field, since estimating tools and workflows vary. Quantify outcomes where you can, such as bid win rates or cost accuracy improvements, to show the impact of your work.
Which companies hire mid level estimators?
Companies hiring mid level estimators right now include Jobot, Quanta Services, and Hays, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Hiring at this level covers general contractors, specialty subcontractors, engineering and design-build firms, and manufacturers who run in-house estimating teams.
Are there remote mid level estimator jobs?
Yes, though availability varies by sector. About 9% of mid level estimator openings are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with the strongest remote options in manufacturing cost estimating and certain pre-construction roles where site visits are minimal. Construction-heavy positions still skew toward on-site or hybrid arrangements.
How do I move up to a mid level estimator role?
Growth from entry level to mid level comes from taking on progressively larger scopes with less supervision. Build fluency in industry-standard software, develop a feel for subcontractor and material pricing, and seek out projects where you own the estimate from quantity takeoff through bid submission. Demonstrating that your numbers hold up after award is one of the clearest signals that you are ready for more responsibility.
Which industries hire the most mid level estimators?
Mid Level estimator roles concentrate in Staffing & Recruiting, Construction & Real Estate, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because project pipelines are large enough to require dedicated estimating staff who can work with real autonomy and volume.
