Finance Jobs in Pittsburgh: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a finance job in Pittsburgh?
Focus your search on Pittsburgh's three strongest hiring sectors: large health systems, regional and national banks headquartered or with major operations downtown, and universities anchored in Oakland. Roles in financial analysis, budgeting, and treasury are the most active. Candidates who can demonstrate experience with healthcare-specific financial systems or regulatory reporting stand out in this market, where the health sector drives a disproportionate share of openings.
Which companies hire finances in Pittsburgh?
Companies currently hiring finances in Pittsburgh include PNC Financial Services, First National Bank, and BNY, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pittsburgh's employer mix skews heavily toward large health systems, regional banks, insurance carriers, and research universities, all of which maintain significant in-house finance teams.
Are there remote finance jobs in Pittsburgh?
Yes, though availability depends on the role: analytical and reporting-focused positions are far more likely to be remote or hybrid than cash-handling, audit, or branch-based roles. About 85% of finance openings tied to Pittsburgh are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the flexible arrangements concentrating in corporate financial planning and analysis positions rather than transactional or in-person banking roles.
How can I get a finance job in Pittsburgh with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Pittsburgh is through the city's large health systems, which regularly hire financial analysts and billing coordinators at the junior level. Carnegie Mellon, Pitt, and Duquesne also hire entry-level finance staff in administrative and budget-support roles. Starting in accounts payable, financial operations, or billing at a hospital or university gives you exposure to the employer types that dominate Pittsburgh hiring and builds a local professional network quickly.
Which industries hire the most finances in Pittsburgh?
Most finance openings in Pittsburgh sit in Technology & Software and Healthcare & Medical Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pittsburgh's identity as a healthcare and education hub, combined with a resilient regional banking presence downtown, means those sectors consistently generate the highest volume of finance postings across experience levels.
