Finance Professor Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance professor in Delaware?
The concrete path to becoming a finance professor in Delaware starts with completing a doctoral degree in finance, accounting, or economics from an accredited university, as Delaware institutions consistently require the terminal degree for full-time faculty. Delaware does not require a state-issued teaching license for postsecondary faculty. Candidates then apply directly to hiring departments at institutions like the University of Delaware or Wilmington University, where search committees evaluate research fit, teaching philosophy, and course coverage needs.
Which companies hire finance professors in Delaware?
Delaware finance professor roles are posted by University of Delaware, Chamberlain University, and Beebe Healthcare and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's deep concentration of corporate headquarters and financial services firms also creates openings for adjunct and executive education faculty who bring applied industry experience.
Which Delaware cities have the most finance professor jobs?
Newark, Wilmington, and Lewes have the most finance professor openings in Delaware. Newark anchors activity through the University of Delaware's Alfred Lerner College of Business, while Wilmington draws openings from Wilmington University and the city's large financial services and corporate services sector, and Dover generates postings through Delaware State University and state government-adjacent education programs.
Are there remote finance professor jobs in Delaware?
Yes, and more than many academic disciplines, since lecture delivery and grading translate well to online formats. About 0% of finance professor openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting continued investment in online degree programs by Delaware institutions. Fully remote positions tend to concentrate in online-only course sections and continuing education rather than tenure-track lines.
How can I get hired as a finance professor in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is adjunct instruction, where candidates with a master's degree and relevant industry experience can begin teaching undergraduate finance courses at Wilmington University or Delaware Technical Community College without a completed doctorate. From adjunct roles, candidates build a teaching portfolio and often transition into visiting assistant professor positions. Holding a CFA charter or CPA license gives applicants a concrete edge for applied finance and accounting courses, and prior roles in corporate treasury, investment banking, or financial analysis at Delaware-based firms strengthen candidacy meaningfully.
