School Social Worker Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a school social worker in Delaware?
You become a school social worker in Delaware by earning a Master of Social Work degree from a CSWE-accredited program and obtaining a school social worker license issued by the Delaware Department of Education. The process involves completing a supervised field placement in a school setting, passing the required background checks, and submitting an application to the Delaware DOE's Educator Licensure office. Candidates holding a clinical license such as an LCSW through Delaware's Board of Social Work Examiners have a competitive edge in hiring.
Which companies hire school social workers in Delaware?
Companies currently hiring school social workers in Delaware include LifeStance Health, RHP Properties, and PACE, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's public school districts, including Christina, Red Clay Consolidated, and Brandywine, represent the largest and most consistent source of school social worker openings in the state.
Which Delaware cities have the most school social worker jobs?
Wilmington, Dover, and New Castle have the most school social worker openings in Delaware. Wilmington leads because it is the state's largest city and home to its biggest school districts, while Dover and Newark generate steady demand as the state capital and a major university town respectively, each anchored by large public school systems and community mental health partnerships that extend into school settings.
Are there remote school social worker jobs in Delaware?
Yes, but they're rare. About 90% of school social worker openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the fundamentally in-person nature of the role. School social workers are typically expected to be present in buildings to conduct assessments, attend IEP meetings, and respond to student crises, though some administrative, consultation, or telehealth-supported counseling functions may occasionally be performed off-site.
How can I get hired as a school social worker in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for practicum or internship placements within Delaware public school districts while completing your MSW, then converting that relationship into a full-time hire. Christina School District and Red Clay Consolidated School District have both placed MSW interns in paid or stipend-supported roles that often lead to licensure-eligible positions. Candidates coming from adjacent roles such as school counselor assistant, behavioral health technician, or case manager in a Delaware nonprofit can also transition into school social work once they complete their supervised hours and Delaware DOE licensure requirements.
Where can I find and apply to school social worker jobs in Delaware?
You can find and apply to school social worker jobs in Delaware on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search for roles that match your license level, preferred school district, and specialization, then apply directly to the positions that fit.
