Finance Professor Jobs in South Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance professor in South Dakota?
Becoming a finance professor in South Dakota typically requires earning a Ph.D. or DBA in finance or a related discipline from an accredited university. South Dakota does not require a state-issued teaching license for university-level faculty. Candidates apply directly to business schools such as those at the University of South Dakota or South Dakota State University. Holding a CFA or CPA designation strengthens applications, particularly at institutions with strong ties to the state's banking and agricultural finance sectors.
Which companies hire finance professors in South Dakota?
Companies currently hiring finance professors in South Dakota include South Dakota Board of Regents, Sinte Gleska University, and CENTER FOR FAMILY MEDICINE, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. South Dakota's established public and private universities, along with institutions with business school accreditation, represent the most consistent source of finance faculty openings in the state.
Which South Dakota cities have the most finance professor jobs?
Spearfish, Mission, and Sioux Falls have the most finance professor openings in South Dakota. Sioux Falls leads due to its concentration of private colleges and proximity to the state's financial services industry, while Brookings benefits from South Dakota State University's business programs and Vermillion houses the University of South Dakota's College of Business and Information Systems.
How can I get hired as a finance professor in South Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a lecturer or visiting assistant professor position, which South Dakota universities such as Augustana University and the University of Sioux Falls use to bring in candidates who are ABD or recently graduated. Adjunct teaching roles provide a concrete foothold and lead to full-time consideration.
