Financial Auditor Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial auditor in Delaware?
Most financial auditor roles in Delaware require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and many employers expect or prefer candidates who hold or are pursuing a CPA license. Delaware CPA licensure is administered by the Delaware Board of Accountancy, which requires passing all four sections of the Uniform CPA Exam along with meeting education and experience requirements. Candidates without a CPA often enter through staff auditor or audit associate roles at public accounting firms or corporate internal audit departments.
How much do financial auditors make in Delaware?
Financial auditors in Delaware earn a median of about $95,020 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,500 for the lowest 10% to over $132,550 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire financial auditors in Delaware?
Delaware financial auditor roles are posted by Coast to Coast Merchandising and Installations, ICF, and Hologic and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's unusually high concentration of Fortune 500 corporate headquarters and major financial institutions makes it one of the more consistent states for corporate internal audit and compliance auditing roles.
Which Delaware cities have the most financial auditor jobs?
Wilmington, Newark, and New Castle account for the largest share of financial auditor openings in Delaware. Wilmington dominates because it is home to the state's biggest banks, credit card companies, and corporate legal entities, while Dover and Newark generate demand through state government agencies, the University of Delaware, and regional employers anchored in those communities.
Are there remote financial auditor jobs in Delaware?
Yes, and more than many comparable roles, since financial auditing is largely desk-based and document-driven. About 25% of financial auditor openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how well the analytical and reporting work translates to off-site arrangements. Financial reporting review, internal controls testing, and compliance documentation are the functions most commonly offered in remote or hybrid formats.
How can I get hired as a financial auditor in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an audit associate or staff auditor role at one of the regional or national public accounting firms with offices in Wilmington, where new graduates are hired in structured cohorts each year. Large Delaware-chartered banks and financial services firms also bring on audit assistants through rotational finance programs. Candidates transitioning from accounts payable, bookkeeping, or financial analyst roles often move into auditing with the help of a CPA exam candidacy or a CIA designation in progress, both of which signal commitment to the field.
Where can I find and apply to financial auditor jobs in Delaware?
