Internal Auditor Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a internal auditor in Delaware?
Most internal auditor roles in Delaware require a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business as a foundation. Delaware does not issue a state-specific internal auditor license, but employers strongly prefer candidates who hold or are pursuing the Certified Internal Auditor credential from the Institute of Internal Auditors, or a CPA from the Delaware Board of Accountancy. Starting in audit staff or accounts payable roles at a large Wilmington-area employer is the most common entry path.
Which companies hire internal auditors in Delaware?
Employers hiring internal auditors in Delaware right now include Coast to Coast Merchandising and Installations, ICF, and Hologic, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's concentration of financial services headquarters and Fortune 500 corporate offices means audit teams here tend to be well-resourced and hire across staff, senior, and manager levels on a rolling basis.
Which Delaware cities have the most internal auditor jobs?
Wilmington, Newark, and New Castle account for the largest share of internal auditor openings in Delaware. Wilmington dominates because it is home to major bank and credit card company headquarters, while Newark draws openings tied to university-affiliated and life sciences employers, and Dover sees demand from state government agencies and regulated utilities that maintain ongoing internal audit functions.
Are there remote internal auditor jobs in Delaware?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 25% of internal auditor openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves reviewing documentation, testing controls, and writing reports rather than requiring on-site presence. Risk assessment, IT audit, and SOX testing work tends to be most amenable to fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a internal auditor in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an audit associate or junior auditor role at one of Wilmington's large financial institutions or a regional accounting firm with Delaware clients. Employers such as large credit card issuers and banks regularly hire new graduates into rotational audit programs. Earning or actively pursuing the CIA designation early, building Excel and data analysis skills, and gaining exposure through accounting or accounts payable roles all give candidates without formal audit experience a meaningful edge.
Where can I find and apply to internal auditor jobs in Delaware?
You can find and apply to internal auditor jobs in Delaware on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your experience level and preferred location or work arrangement, and apply directly to whichever ones fit your background.
