Financial Operations Specialist Jobs in Maine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial operations specialist in Maine?
Most employers in Maine require a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration as the foundation for this role. Maine does not issue a state license specific to financial operations specialists, so candidates advance by building experience in accounts payable, receivable, or general ledger functions and by earning credentials such as the Certified Bookkeeper designation from the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers or the Certified Management Accountant credential. Strong candidates in Maine typically come from banking, healthcare, or state government finance departments.
Which companies hire financial operations specialists in Maine?
Companies currently hiring financial operations specialists in Maine include Bank of America, WEX, and MaineHealth, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Maine's financial services sector, anchored by community banks and regional credit unions, along with its large healthcare systems, represent the most consistent sources of ongoing hiring statewide.
Which Maine cities have the most financial operations specialist jobs?
Portland, Bangor, and Westbrook have the most financial operations specialist openings in Maine. Portland drives the largest share due to its concentration of regional bank headquarters, insurance firms, and corporate back-office operations, while Augusta generates demand through state government agencies and Augusta-area healthcare facilities, and Bangor supports openings through its medical center and regional financial institutions.
Are there remote financial operations specialist jobs in Maine?
Yes, and the role is reasonably well suited to remote work given its desk-based, analytical nature. About 43% of financial operations specialist openings tied to Maine are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting growing employer comfort with distributed finance teams. The tasks most commonly done remotely include financial reporting, reconciliations, and data entry, while roles involving cash handling or direct AP vendor contact tend to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a financial operations specialist in Maine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to accounts payable or accounts receivable coordinator roles at Maine's larger healthcare systems, such as MaineHealth or Northern Light Health, which regularly hire candidates with no specialized finance experience but strong attention to detail and spreadsheet skills. The State of Maine also posts entry-level finance technician and fiscal administrative roles through its careers portal that serve as strong launching points. Earning the Certified Bookkeeper credential or completing a community college certificate in accounting through institutions such as Southern Maine Community College strengthens any application significantly.
Where can I find and apply to financial operations specialist jobs in Maine?
