Accounting Analyst Jobs in Maine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting analyst in Maine?
Most accounting analyst positions in Maine require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. While Maine does not require a state license to work as an accounting analyst, earning CPA licensure through the Maine Board of Accountancy strengthens your candidacy significantly, especially at larger employers. Candidates typically move into the role directly from college or from bookkeeping and accounts payable positions, with employers in healthcare and state government favoring candidates who can demonstrate experience with fund or grant accounting.
How much do accounting analysts make in Maine?
Accounting analysts in Maine earn a median of about $88,130 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,110 for the lowest 10% to over $118,040 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire accounting analysts in Maine?
Maine accounting analyst roles are posted by Vito Courtney & Associates, Stone Coast Fund Services, and Nicholson Michaud and Company and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Maine's largest healthcare systems, state agencies, and regional financial institutions tend to post the most consistent openings throughout the year.
Which Maine cities have the most accounting analyst jobs?
Portland, Winthrop, and Auburn hold the greatest concentration of accounting analyst openings in Maine. Portland leads as the state's commercial and healthcare hub, anchored by large hospital systems and financial services firms, while Augusta's role as the state capital generates steady demand from government agencies and public-sector contractors, and Bangor draws hiring from regional healthcare organizations and retail headquarters in eastern Maine.
Are there remote accounting analyst jobs in Maine?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 40% of accounting analyst openings tied to Maine are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based and analytical nature of the role. Financial reporting, budget analysis, and reconciliation work are the functions most commonly offered on a remote or hybrid basis, while roles involving close collaboration with operations teams or on-site audits tend to require more in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a accounting analyst in Maine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to accounts payable, accounts receivable, or junior staff accountant roles at Maine's large institutional employers, including MaineHealth, the State of Maine, or regional community banks, then moving into an analyst title within one to two years. Pursuing CPA exam eligibility through the Maine Board of Accountancy while working gives candidates a clear edge. Many state agency and healthcare finance departments also hire recent graduates through structured rotational or new-hire cohort programs that provide exposure to financial reporting and analysis from day one.
