Forward Deployed Engineering Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a forward deployed engineering in California?
Most forward deployed engineers in California enter through a computer science or software engineering degree followed by experience in a customer-facing technical role such as solutions engineering or technical consulting. California does not require a state-issued license for this role. Large Bay Area and Los Angeles employers typically look for candidates who have worked directly in customer environments, and a portfolio demonstrating deployment or integration projects strengthens any application significantly.
Which companies hire forward deployed engineerings in California?
Employers hiring forward deployed engineerings in California right now include Snorkel AI, Adobe, and Jobot, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. California's concentration of enterprise software companies and defense technology contractors means openings appear across both commercial and government-facing teams throughout the state.
Which California cities have the most forward deployed engineering jobs?
The California cities with the most forward deployed engineering openings are San Francisco, San Jose, and Los Angeles. The Bay Area leads because it is home to the highest concentration of enterprise software and AI companies in the country, while Los Angeles and San Diego draw openings from defense contractors, aerospace firms, and a growing commercial tech sector anchored by major regional employers.
Are there remote forward deployed engineering jobs in California?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely analytical roles, since forward deployed engineering work often requires on-site presence at customer locations. About 38% of forward deployed engineering openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting roles where deployment work is handled through secure remote access or during limited on-site sprints. Integration-heavy or government-client roles remain the most consistently on-site.
How can I get hired as a forward deployed engineering in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a solutions engineer or technical support engineer role at a California enterprise software company, which builds the customer-facing deployment skills employers want. Companies like Salesforce, ServiceNow, and Palantir run associate technical programs and new-grad hiring tracks out of their California offices. A strong GitHub portfolio showing integration or automation projects, combined with experience in a adjacent role such as DevOps engineer or implementation consultant, provides a credible foundation without direct forward deployed experience.
Where can I find and apply to forward deployed engineering jobs in California?
