Tips for Your Funeral Arranger Job Search
Tailor your resume for grief work
Funeral arrangers work closely with bereaved families, so your resume should highlight any experience in active listening, customer care during emotional situations, or bereavement support. Mention licensure status, state-specific certifications, and any pre-need sales experience prominently near the top.
Target openings by service model
Independent funeral homes and corporate chains like Dignity Memorial or Service Corporation International hire for different cultures and workflows. Filter openings by employer type so your cover letter speaks directly to whether you prefer community-rooted service or a structured corporate environment.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists funeral arranger openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Address licensure requirements upfront
Many states require funeral arrangers to hold a funeral director license, an embalmer license, or both, while others have no state license requirement at all. Confirm your current licensure in your application materials and clarify your willingness to obtain additional credentials if the role demands it.
Prepare for arrangement conference roleplay
Interviewers often simulate an arrangement conference to assess how you guide families through service selection and casket or urn choices. Practice walking through a typical arrangement conversation out loud, balancing empathy with clear explanation of options and pricing structures.
Negotiate beyond base pay at the offer stage
Funeral arrangement roles sometimes carry on-call requirements, weekend rotations, or pre-need sales quotas. Before accepting, ask specifically about call frequency, commission structure on pre-need contracts, and any licensing reimbursement the employer provides.
Funeral Arranger Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most funeral arrangers?
The companies hiring the most funeral arrangers right now include Service Corporation International, Sci Shared Resources, and Park Lawn Corporation, with the largest share of openings in Florida, Texas, and California, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Both large corporate funeral service networks and independent family-owned funeral homes post openings regularly, so the mix of employers shifts from month to month.
How many funeral arranger jobs are remote?
About 0% of funeral arranger openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, because most arrangement work happens in person with families at the funeral home. Pre-need sales consultants and grief support coordinators represent the sub-areas most likely to allow some remote or phone-based work within this field.
How do you become a funeral arranger?
You typically start by completing a mortuary science or funeral service program at an accredited college, then fulfill your state's apprenticeship or internship requirement under a licensed funeral director. After that, you apply for your state license, pass any required exams, and begin working in an arrangement or family services role at a funeral home.
Can you get hired as a funeral arranger with little experience?
Yes, many funeral homes hire candidates with limited direct experience if you have a mortuary science degree and are in the process of completing your apprenticeship hours. Backgrounds in grief counseling, customer service in healthcare settings, or religious ministry are often viewed favorably because they demonstrate comfort working with families in emotional circumstances.
What does the funeral arranger interview process look like?
Most funeral arranger interviews include an initial phone screen with a hiring manager or HR contact, followed by an in-person interview at the funeral home. Candidates are often asked to walk through how they would conduct an arrangement conference, and some employers add a shadowing visit or a simulated family interaction before extending an offer.
Where can I find and apply to funeral arranger jobs?
You can find and apply to funeral arranger jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from funeral homes and funeral service companies across the United States. Find the roles that fit your location, licensure, and experience level and apply directly to each listing from the page.
