Green Card Addiction Counselor Jobs
Addiction Counselor roles can qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification when employers demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available. State licensure requirements, degree equivalency, and prevailing-wage compliance all shape how your sponsorship case is built and filed.

Verify your degree meets PERM requirements
PERM requires your employer to define minimum qualifications before filing. A bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, or social work typically anchors the EB-3 professional category. Foreign three-year degrees may need a credential evaluation to confirm U.S. equivalency before DOL submission.
Secure state licensure before your employer files
Most Addiction Counselor roles require state licensure as a CADC, LADC, or equivalent. If your employer lists licensure as a job requirement in the PERM application, you must hold that credential by the time DOL reviews the filing.
Target behavioral health networks with PERM filing history
Substance use disorder clinics, hospital systems, and federally qualified health centers are more likely to have established PERM workflows than private solo practices. Search OFLC disclosure data to identify employers who have filed PERM applications for counseling roles in your target state.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers by role
Migrate Mate lets you filter Addiction Counselor jobs by green card sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to employers who have never filed PERM. Focusing your search on verified sponsors shortens the path from offer letter to I-140 filing.
Understand how prevailing wage affects your offer
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location before PERM is approved. Run the OFLC Wage Search using SOC code 21-1011 to check the Level I through IV wage tiers for Substance Abuse, Behavioral Disorder, and Mental Health Counselors in your area.
Ask your employer about concurrent I-485 filing eligibility
If your priority date is current when the I-140 is approved, you can file the I-485 adjustment of status concurrently rather than waiting. Clarify this with your employer's immigration attorney before accepting an offer, since concurrent filing shortens the time to a green card significantly.
Green Card Addiction Counselor: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Addiction Counselor role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Addiction Counselor positions are sponsored under EB-3 as skilled workers or professionals, since the role typically requires a bachelor's degree plus licensure rather than an advanced degree. EB-2 is possible if the position genuinely requires a master's degree or higher and the employer can document that requirement as a business necessity in the PERM filing.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B visa sponsorship is temporary, subject to an annual cap and lottery, and requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation. PERM-based green card sponsorship is permanent, has no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most countries, and follows a labor certification process rather than a lottery. The tradeoff is that PERM typically takes longer from filing to approval than a standard H-1B petition.
Can my employer sponsor me if I need state licensure to start the job?
Yes, but the PERM job requirements must reflect what is genuinely needed for the position. If licensure is listed as a requirement, you must hold that credential before DOL approves the application. Some employers structure the offer to allow unlicensed candidates to obtain licensure during a supervised period before the PERM filing begins, which can give you time to complete any required supervised hours.
How do I find Addiction Counselor jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter Addiction Counselor roles by employers with a documented history of green card sponsorship, so you're targeting positions where PERM is already a known process for the hiring team. This matters because many clinical employers are willing to sponsor but have never done so, and navigating that conversation without data is difficult.
What happens to my green card case if I change employers during the process?
If you change employers after the I-140 is approved and your priority date has been current for at least 180 days, you may be able to port your green card case to a new employer in the same or a similar occupational category under AC21 portability rules. Changing jobs before the I-140 is approved generally restarts the PERM process with the new employer.
