Align your degree to the PERM job description
PERM requires your degree field to match the role's stated requirements. A computer science or software engineering degree maps cleanly to Application Developer II; an unrelated field creates audit risk. Confirm the match before applications go out.
Target employers with active EB-3 filing history
Search OFLC disclosure data for companies that have filed PERM applications under software developer SOC codes. Employers with recent EB-3 filings for this role already have internal processes, which shortens your timeline significantly.
Search green card sponsoring jobs on Migrate Mate
Filter by Application Developer II roles with confirmed PERM sponsorship history. Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have filed for this specific job title, so you're not guessing at which companies will actually sponsor.
Request the prevailing wage tier during offer negotiations
DOL assigns your role to a wage level from I through IV using the OFLC Wage Search. Ask your prospective employer which level they intend to file at. Level I locks your salary floor for the entire PERM period, which can span years.
Confirm your employer's PERM recruitment timeline upfront
PERM requires the employer to run a documented recruitment campaign before filing. That process alone takes 60 to 90 days minimum. Clarify whether your employer has started this step or is starting from scratch after your offer is accepted.
Protect your status gap between I-140 approval and green card
Once USCIS approves your I-140, your priority date is locked even if you change employers under AC21 portability. Verify your employer files the I-140 promptly after PERM certification so your place in line is secured before any job transition.
Green Card Application Developer Ii: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Application Developer II role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Application Developer II positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers requiring a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. EB-2 applies when the role genuinely requires an advanced degree or the candidate holds one and the employer structures the job description accordingly. USCIS reviews the actual job duties and stated minimum requirements, not just the job title.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary status requiring renewal every three years with no direct path to permanence built in. PERM green card sponsorship leads to lawful permanent residency, with no annual lottery and no cap concern at the EB-3 level for most countries outside India and China. The tradeoff is time: PERM processing at DOL currently runs over a year before you even reach the I-140 stage at USCIS.
How long does the full EB-3 green card process take for an Application Developer II?
From the start of DOL PERM recruitment to receiving a green card, the process typically spans two to four years for applicants born outside high-backlog countries. India-born applicants face priority date backlogs that can extend the wait significantly longer. Your employer's preparation quality, DOL processing times, and your country of birth are the three biggest variables.
Where can I find Application Developer II jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Application Developer II roles where employers have documented PERM filing history. This is more reliable than general job boards because it filters for employers who have actually sponsored this job title before, rather than those who list sponsorship as a possibility in their posting.
Can I change jobs after my employer files my PERM application?
Changing jobs resets the PERM process entirely since the certification is tied to a specific employer and job description. Once USCIS approves your I-140 and it has been pending for 180 days, AC21 portability lets you move to a same or similar role without losing your priority date. Staying through at least the I-140 approval stage protects the time already invested.
