Green Card Senior Data Center Engineer Jobs
Senior Data Center Engineer roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires employers to document recruitment efforts before filing an I-140 immigrant petition. Data center infrastructure and systems engineering experience aligns well with DOL specialty occupation standards, making this a strong sponsorship pathway for qualified foreign professionals.

INTRODUCTION
Our thirst for technology is a part of everything we do. The Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future. Our lab mirrors a research and development department -- cutting-edge strategies are born, tested and tested again. Along with a team of great minds, you take on complex topics like how we use power or how to run state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly facilities. You're a visionary who optimizes for efficiencies and never stops seeking improvements -- even small changes that can make a huge impact. You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians. With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).
ABOUT THE JOB
As a Data Center Engineer, you will be a technical lead within the Data Center Delivery and Engineering (DCDE) team. In this role, you will serve as a highly motivated Electrical Engineer and Technical Program Manager, leveraging your demonstrated design, construction, equipment operation, and maintenance experience in the area of mission-critical facilities. You will be involved in the development of electrical systems ranging from incoming utility design down to the rack. Your involvement will span the entire project life-cycle, starting at due diligence, progressing through construction and commissioning, and developing into sustaining support for the internal operations team. You will provide technical leadership in a matrix organization, preparing critical documentation such as facility audits, total cost of ownership (TCO) analyses, and concept design reviews to ensure successful product delivery. Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments.
- 6 years of experience in bidding, designing, operating, and commissioning electrical distribution systems from high voltage (HV) transformer to branch circuits.
- 6 years of experience with mission-critical facilities, with a focus on market-available data center multi-tenant facilities (colocation).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant field.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Experience with cross-functional teams to demonstrate an understanding of interrelated issues, including structural, civil, IT/Telecom, security, mechanical, and architectural aspects.
- Experience preparing technical documentation including facility review checklists, facility audits, statements of work (SOW), and total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis.
- Ability to demonstrate fluency in design software and analysis of electrical power systems within a matrix organization.
- Ability to travel 30% of the time domestically and internationally.
Responsibilities
- Perform technical evaluations and due diligence of market available multi-tenant facilities (i.e. colocation) for the deployment of Google services and critical infrastructure.
- Manage power system challenges across the project lifecycle, during concept design, detailed design, procurement, bidding, manufacturing, delivery, installation and commissioning on site.
- Identify and resolve issues raised by the cross functional teams and various external stakeholders.
- Understand and evaluate data center designs based on program requirements, level of redundancy, availability aims, risks, and identifying potential single points of failure in the design.
- Interface closely with cross-functional groups, such as the Third-Party Data Center Operations (3PDC-Ops), Energy and Land Strategy (ELS), and Front End Planning (FEP) teams to deliver the electrical solutions to third-party data center projects.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Senior Data Center Engineer
Document your infrastructure credentials before applying
Gather vendor certifications (Cisco, VMware, Juniper), degree transcripts, and employment verification letters before outreach begins. PERM audits frequently request this documentation, and gaps discovered mid-process can add months to your timeline.
Target data center operators with active PERM filings
Colocation providers, hyperscale cloud operators, and managed service firms file PERM petitions regularly for data center roles. Focus your search on employers with established immigration programs rather than those sponsoring a foreign worker for the first time.
Search green card roles through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Senior Data Center Engineer positions by employers with green card sponsorship history. This saves significant time compared to screening individual job listings for sponsorship language buried in application portals.
Verify the prevailing wage tier before negotiating your offer
Run your specific job title, work location, and experience level through the OFLC Wage Search before any offer discussion. The wage DOL certifies on your PERM must match or exceed that level throughout the process, which affects your negotiating floor.
Clarify the EB-2 versus EB-3 track during the offer stage
Ask hiring managers whether the role will be classified under EB-2 (advanced degree or equivalent) or EB-3 (skilled worker). For Senior Data Center Engineer roles, EB-2 requires demonstrating that the position genuinely requires a master's degree or equivalent, which not all employers can support.
Understand how concurrent filing affects your wait time
Once your I-140 is approved, you may be able to file I-485 adjustment of status concurrently if a visa number is immediately available for your country. For nationals from backlogged countries, this distinction significantly impacts how quickly you can change employers using AC21 portability.
Green Card Senior Data Center Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Data Center Engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Senior Data Center Engineer positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers, and many qualify under EB-2 if the employer can document that the role genuinely requires an advanced degree or its equivalent. EB-2 gives you access to the National Interest Waiver self-petition route if you meet the criteria, while EB-3 is more commonly used when the employer drives the standard PERM process.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
Green card sponsorship through PERM is permanent residency, not a temporary status, and there is no annual lottery at the EB-3 level. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone takes six to eighteen months before the I-140 petition, whereas H-1B visa status can begin within months of selection. For nationals from countries without significant EB backlogs, the green card path can reach a final decision faster than renewing H-1B status repeatedly.
What does the PERM process require from an employer sponsoring a Senior Data Center Engineer?
Your employer must conduct a supervised DOL recruitment campaign, post the role through specific channels, and document that no qualified U.S. workers were available for the position. For Senior Data Center Engineer roles, the job requirements stated in the PERM application must reflect what the job genuinely requires and cannot be written to favor your specific background. Any discrepancy between the posted requirements and your actual qualifications can trigger an audit.
How do I find Senior Data Center Engineer jobs that sponsor green cards?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Senior Data Center Engineer roles with green card sponsorship history, filtering out positions where sponsorship is unlikely. Many job listings advertise 'work authorization required' without clarifying sponsorship availability, so using a platform built around green card sponsorship data reduces wasted applications significantly.
Can I switch employers after my green card process has started?
Yes, under AC21 portability you can change to a same or similar role after your I-140 is approved and your I-485 has been pending for 180 days or more. For Senior Data Center Engineer roles, USCIS evaluates whether the new position falls within the same occupational classification. Keeping documentation of your new role's duties aligned with your approved I-140 job description is essential for a clean portability determination.
