Frame your degree against EB-2 criteria
PERM filings for Assistant General Manager roles often get slotted under EB-3 by default. If you hold a master's degree or a bachelor's plus five years of progressive management experience, push your employer to evaluate EB-2 eligibility before filing, since it typically means shorter wait times for most countries.
Verify the job description matches PERM requirements
Before signing an offer, confirm the written job duties align with what the employer will certify on the PERM application. Vague or inflated duty lists are a common reason DOL audits stall the labor certification process for management roles.
Search employers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Assistant General Manager openings by green card sponsorship history. Targeting employers who have filed PERM certifications before cuts the time you spend screening companies that have never navigated the process for management-level roles.
Ask about multi-location employer infrastructure
Hotel groups, restaurant chains, and retail operators with multi-unit structures often have in-house immigration counsel already familiar with PERM for management roles. These employers can move faster from offer to I-140 filing than single-location businesses handling sponsorship for the first time.
Request an E-Verify enrollment check before accepting
USCIS requires that employers sponsoring green card applicants maintain proper I-9 compliance. Confirming your prospective employer is enrolled in E-Verify signals they have the compliance infrastructure to support a PERM filing without delays caused by basic documentation gaps.
Use OFLC Wage Search to benchmark prevailing wage
DOL sets the minimum wage an employer must offer you during the PERM process based on your job zone and location. Run your role through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating your offer so you know whether the proposed salary satisfies the prevailing wage requirement your employer must certify.

Find Assistant General Manager JobsAssistant General Manager Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Assistant General Manager role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Assistant General Manager positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers, since the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or substantial equivalent experience. EB-2 sponsorship is available if the employer structures the position to require an advanced degree or if you qualify under the National Interest Waiver, which is less common for management roles in hospitality or retail.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
Green card sponsorship through PERM is a permanent pathway with no annual lottery, whereas the H-1B is a temporary status subject to a cap and random selection. The PERM process takes longer upfront, often 18 to 36 months from labor certification to I-485 approval, but it leads directly to lawful permanent residency rather than a renewable temporary status that can be disrupted by the lottery.
How do I find Assistant General Manager employers that sponsor green cards?
Migrate Mate lets you filter Assistant General Manager openings specifically by green card sponsorship history, so you're not wasting interviews on companies that have never filed PERM. Multi-unit hospitality groups, franchise operators, and national retail chains tend to have the infrastructure and immigration counsel already in place to support PERM filings for management-level roles.
What documents should I prepare before a sponsoring employer begins the PERM process?
Gather official transcripts confirming your degree, employment verification letters showing progressive management responsibility, and a credentials evaluation if your degree is from outside the U.S. DOL requires employers to document that your qualifications match the certified job duties, so gaps between your credentials and the job description can trigger a PERM audit or denial.
Can I change employers after my green card sponsorship has started?
Once your I-140 petition is approved and your priority date is current, portability rules under AC21 allow you to transfer sponsorship to a new employer in the same or similar occupational classification. For Assistant General Manager roles, that means you can move to a comparable management position without restarting the entire PERM process, as long as your I-485 has been pending for at least 180 days.
