Green Card Business Development Director Jobs
Business Development Director roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in business, marketing, or a related field. Your employer files a PERM labor certification with the DOL before petitioning USCIS, making the sponsorship permanent rather than tied to a temporary visa term.

Document your degree's field alignment
PERM requires your degree to align with the specific duties of the role, not just the title. A business administration or marketing degree paired with a director-level job description is a stronger match than a general management background.
Target employers with dedicated immigration budgets
Business Development Director roles at mid-sized B2B software or professional services firms often have legal budgets for PERM filings. Avoid early-stage startups unless they've sponsored foreign nationals in senior roles before, which you can verify through DOL disclosure data.
Search sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Business Development Director openings by employers with active green card filing history, so you're applying to companies already familiar with the PERM process rather than educating a hiring team from scratch.
Clarify the EB-2 versus EB-3 classification early
If the job posting specifies a master's degree or five or more years of progressive experience, your employer may file under EB-2, which can mean shorter wait times for nationals from most countries. Confirm classification with the employer's immigration counsel before accepting an offer.
Request the prevailing wage determination timeline upfront
PERM filings begin with a prevailing wage determination from OFLC, which currently runs several months. Ask your prospective employer whether they've already initiated this step, since the clock doesn't start on your green card until OFLC issues the wage determination.
Benchmark your offered salary against OFLC Wage Search
Your employer must pay at least the prevailing wage certified by OFLC for your occupation and location. Run the OFLC Wage Search yourself using the SOC code for Business Development Directors before negotiations, so you can confirm the offer clears the DOL threshold.
Green Card Business Development Director: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Business Development Director role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Business Development Director positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled professional roles requiring at least a bachelor's degree. If the employer requires a master's degree or the equivalent in education and experience, EB-2 may apply instead. Your employer's immigration counsel determines the correct category based on the actual job requirements documented in the PERM labor certification.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa sponsorship is temporary and subject to an annual lottery, so there's no guarantee of approval. A PERM-based green card leads to permanent residency with no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most nationalities. The process takes longer overall, often two to four years from PERM filing to a green card, but the outcome is lawful permanent residency rather than a status that must be renewed.
What does the PERM process look like for a Business Development Director position?
Your employer first obtains a prevailing wage determination from OFLC, then conducts a supervised recruitment campaign to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available for the role. After PERM is certified by DOL, the employer files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Once that's approved and a visa number is available, you file for adjustment of status or an immigrant visa to become a permanent resident.
How do I find employers who will sponsor a Business Development Director for a green card?
Use Migrate Mate to search Business Development Director roles filtered by employers with documented green card sponsorship history. This saves significant time compared to applying broadly, since many companies are unfamiliar with the PERM process for senior commercial roles and may withdraw sponsorship offers mid-process once they see the cost and timeline involved.
Can I change employers after my I-140 is approved?
Yes, under AC21 portability rules, you can change employers after your I-140 has been approved and your adjustment of status application has been pending for at least 180 days, as long as the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. For Business Development Directors, a move to a comparable senior commercial role at a new company generally qualifies, but you should confirm this with an immigration attorney before switching.
