Verify your degree meets EB-2 standards
EB-2 requires a master's degree or higher in exercise physiology or a closely related field. A bachelor's plus ACSM-CEP certification alone typically places you in EB-3, which affects your priority date timeline if you're from a backlogged country.
Target hospitals with dedicated cardiac rehab programs
Hospital systems running Phase II and III cardiac rehabilitation programs file PERM sponsorships for clinical exercise physiologists far more consistently than outpatient fitness facilities. Focus your search on AACVPR-certified program sites, where the role carries a defined clinical credential requirement.
Confirm the posted role matches PERM job requirements
DOL requires the PERM job description to reflect the actual duties you'll perform. Ask hiring managers whether the listed requirements specify a degree in exercise physiology specifically, since a generic 'health sciences' requirement may complicate your EB-2 specialty occupation documentation later.
Use Migrate Mate to filter green card sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate by job title and location to surface employers with active PERM and I-140 filing history for clinical exercise physiologist roles, so you're targeting companies that have already navigated the sponsorship process rather than educating a reluctant HR department.
Request a copy of your OFLC Wage Search results before negotiating
DOL prevailing wage determinations set the floor for your offered salary during PERM. Ask your prospective employer to run an OFLC Wage Search for your job zone and metropolitan area early, so both parties understand what wage level is legally required before the labor certification is filed.
Understand concurrent filing eligibility before accepting an offer
If your priority date is current at the time your employer files, USCIS allows concurrent I-140 and I-485 filing, meaning you can apply for adjustment of status without waiting for a separate approval. Confirm with your employer's immigration counsel whether your country and preference category qualify.
Green Card Clinical Exercise Physiologist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Clinical Exercise Physiologist role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
It depends on the employer's stated requirements. If the position requires a master's degree in exercise physiology or a related field, it typically qualifies for EB-2. Roles accepting a bachelor's degree with clinical certification, such as ACSM-CEP, generally fall under EB-3 skilled worker. Your employer's PERM job description determines which category applies, not your personal degree level alone.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 leads to permanent residency, not a temporary status that expires. There is no annual lottery for EB-3, and the process isn't capped the way H-1B visa registrations are. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone takes several months before your I-140 is even filed, and priority date backlogs apply for certain nationalities at the EB-2 and EB-3 levels.
What does PERM labor certification require from my employer for this role?
Your employer must conduct a DOL-prescribed recruitment campaign, including job postings and documentation showing no qualified U.S. worker applied and was rejected without lawful reason. For clinical exercise physiologist positions, the job requirements posted during recruitment must match what's filed with DOL exactly. Any mismatch between the advertised role and the PERM application can trigger an audit.
Where can I find Clinical Exercise Physiologist jobs with green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for employers with PERM and I-140 filing history by job title and location, filtering out roles where sponsorship is unlikely. This is more reliable than general job boards because it surfaces employers who have already sponsored similar roles, rather than those who list sponsorship as a possibility without any track record of doing so.
Can I change employers after my I-140 is approved without losing my priority date?
Yes, in most cases. Under AC21 portability rules, if your I-485 adjustment of status application has been pending for 180 days or more, you can move to a same or similar occupational role without abandoning your priority date. Clinical exercise physiology roles share enough overlap with related allied health positions that portability often applies, but confirm with an immigration attorney before switching employers.
