Audit your credentials before applying
PERM requires your degree to directly relate to the Director of Professional Services role. If your degree is in a tangential field, gather documentation showing how your coursework and progression qualify under the specialty occupation standard DOL applies.
Target firms with PERM filing history
Professional services companies that have sponsored foreign national managers before already have PERM workflows in place. Search OFLC disclosure data by SOC code 11-1021 to identify employers who have filed labor certifications for comparable director-level positions recently.
Search sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Director of Professional Services openings by green card sponsorship history. Targeting employers with documented EB-2 or EB-3 filings cuts the negotiation step where you must convince an employer to start a PERM process from scratch.
Clarify EB-2 versus EB-3 fit early
If your offer letter specifies a master's degree or equivalent as a minimum requirement, you likely qualify for EB-2, which avoids PERM for National Interest Waiver self-petitions. Roles requiring only a bachelor's degree typically route through EB-3, affecting your priority date and wait time.
Negotiate PERM filing into your offer terms
PERM sponsorship requires the employer to pay filing costs and attorney fees. Raise green card sponsorship explicitly during the offer stage, not after signing. Ask whether the company will initiate PERM within 90 days of your start date and confirm it in writing.
Confirm the prevailing wage tier before USCIS filing
PERM labor certifications require DOL to certify the offered salary meets the prevailing wage for the role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search tool to verify your offer falls at Level II or above for a director-level SOC code before your employer submits.
Green Card Director Of Professional Services: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Director of Professional Services role typically qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
It depends on how the employer defines the minimum requirements. If the job description requires a master's degree or a bachelor's degree plus five or more years of progressive management experience, EB-2 is the more common route. Roles specifying only a bachelor's degree as the minimum typically qualify under EB-3. The distinction matters because it affects your priority date and, for some countries, your wait time for an immigrant visa to become available.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B visa is temporary, cap-subject, and requires lottery selection for most new applicants. PERM-based green card sponsorship has no annual lottery and leads to permanent residency rather than a renewable work status. For Director of Professional Services candidates from most countries, EB-3 priority dates are current or near-current, meaning the permanent path can move faster than accumulating H-1B renewals. The trade-off is that PERM requires employer commitment and a longer internal process before USCIS even receives the I-140 petition.
How can I find Director of Professional Services jobs where the employer will sponsor a green card?
Migrate Mate lets you search Director of Professional Services openings filtered by employers with verified green card sponsorship history. This is more reliable than reading job descriptions, which rarely state PERM intent upfront. Focusing on employers with prior EB-2 or EB-3 filings in your target industry means the infrastructure and legal relationships for sponsorship are already in place.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for a director-level role?
The employer must conduct a DOL-supervised recruitment process to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available for the position. For director-level roles, this typically includes job postings, newspaper advertisements, and internal referral steps over a 30-day period. DOL then either certifies or audits the application. After certification, the employer files the I-140 petition with USCIS. The full process from PERM initiation to I-140 approval commonly takes 12 to 24 months depending on DOL processing times and whether an audit is triggered.
Can I switch employers after my green card sponsorship has started?
Once your I-140 is approved and you've been in an adjustment of status queue for 180 days or more, portability rules allow you to change to a same or similar occupation without restarting the process. For Director of Professional Services roles, a move to another professional services management position at a comparable level typically qualifies. You keep your original priority date, which is the most valuable asset if you're from a country with a backlog. An immigration attorney should review whether the new role meets the portability standard before you resign.
