Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Forklift Mechanic
Document your trade certifications before applying
Gather your forklift mechanic certifications, diesel engine training records, and any manufacturer-specific credentials. PERM requires your employer to verify your qualifications meet the minimum job requirements, so having organized documentation speeds up that step.
Target fleet-heavy industries with high mechanic turnover
Warehousing, logistics, and food distribution companies run large forklift fleets and struggle to fill maintenance roles locally. That documented recruiting difficulty is exactly what PERM's labor market test is designed to capture, making these employers realistic sponsorship candidates.
Search green card sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Filter by mechanical trades and location on Migrate Mate to find employers with active EB-3 sponsorship history for skilled maintenance roles. This cuts out the guesswork of cold-applying to companies that have never filed PERM for a technician position.
Ask employers about prevailing wage compliance upfront
PERM requires your employer to pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your role and region. Check the OFLC Wage Search to know the Level I and II rates for your area before negotiations, so you can flag any offer that falls short.
Understand why EB-3 fits this role better than H-1B
Forklift mechanic roles rarely meet H-1B specialty occupation criteria. EB-3 skilled worker classification covers roles requiring at least two years of training or experience, and PERM-based sponsorship leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary, renewable status.
Confirm your employer is E-Verify enrolled before accepting
Employers sponsoring foreign workers for PERM must be able to verify employment eligibility. E-Verify enrollment signals an employer has experience with immigration compliance, which matters when they're also managing the PERM filing timeline on your behalf.

Find Forklift Mechanic JobsForklift Mechanic Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a forklift mechanic job qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. Forklift mechanic roles typically qualify under the EB-3 skilled worker category, which covers positions requiring at least two years of training or experience. Because the role involves specialized knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and combustion systems, employers can document the requirement to meet PERM's job duties standard. Your vocational credentials and work history support that classification.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B requires a specialty occupation tied to a bachelor's degree in a specific field, which most forklift mechanic roles don't satisfy. PERM-based EB-3 sponsorship has no annual lottery, leads to permanent residency rather than a capped temporary status, and is the appropriate path for skilled trade roles. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM processing and visa queue waits can take two to four years depending on your country of birth.
What documents do I need to support a PERM filing for a mechanic role?
Your employer drives the PERM filing, but you'll need to provide evidence of your qualifications to substantiate the job requirements. That includes trade school transcripts, manufacturer training certificates, prior employer letters detailing your mechanical duties, and any relevant certifications. USCIS will later verify these when adjudicating your I-140 immigrant petition, so accuracy and completeness matter from the start.
How do I find employers who will sponsor a green card for a forklift mechanic?
Search Migrate Mate to find employers in warehousing, manufacturing, and logistics who have active EB-3 sponsorship history for skilled trades. Not every employer advertising a mechanic role will sponsor, so filtering by green card sponsorship history saves significant time and avoids offers that stall at the immigration conversation.
Can I change employers after my PERM is filed but before I get my green card?
Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date is current, portability rules under AC21 allow you to change to a same or similar occupation without restarting the process. For forklift mechanics, a role involving the same equipment maintenance duties at a new employer would likely qualify. Changing jobs before I-140 approval generally requires restarting the PERM process with the new employer.
