Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Fuel Truck Driver
Verify your CDL meets federal requirements
PERM petitions for Fuel Truck Driver roles typically require a Class A or B CDL with a hazmat endorsement. Confirm your foreign license can be converted or that you hold equivalent credentials before an employer starts the labor certification process.
Target employers already enrolled in E-Verify
Companies enrolled in E-Verify have experience verifying foreign workers' employment eligibility. Aviation fuel contractors, petroleum distributors, and municipal fleet operators are sectors where sponsored positions appear more frequently than general freight carriers.
Search EB-3 openings using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Fuel Truck Driver roles by employers with active green card sponsorship history. This narrows your search to companies that have already navigated PERM filings, saving significant time in your job hunt.
Request prevailing wage documentation early
Ask your prospective employer to run a prevailing wage determination through the OFLC Wage Search before the PERM process begins. Mismatches between offered wages and DOL-certified rates are a leading cause of PERM delays for transportation roles.
Prepare a clean driving and safety record file
PERM recruitment documentation and subsequent I-140 review often surface your motor vehicle record and any DOT compliance history. Gather certified copies of your driving record from each state or country where you held a commercial license.
Clarify the EB-2 versus EB-3 path with your employer
Most Fuel Truck Driver sponsorships file under EB-3 as a skilled worker. Confirm with your employer which category they intend to use, since EB-2 requires demonstrating advanced credentials or a National Interest Waiver, which rarely applies to this occupation.
Green Card Fuel Truck Driver: Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Fuel Truck Driver job qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. Fuel Truck Driver positions qualify as skilled worker roles under EB-3, provided the job requires at least two years of training or experience, such as a CDL with a hazmat endorsement. Your employer initiates the process by filing a PERM labor certification with the DOL, documenting that no qualified U.S. worker was available, before submitting an I-140 petition to USCIS.
How does EB-3 green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
Unlike the H-1B visa, which requires a specialty occupation and is subject to an annual cap and lottery, EB-3 green card sponsorship leads to permanent residency and carries no annual lottery. The trade-off is a longer timeline: PERM labor certification typically takes six to eighteen months before you even reach the I-140 stage, but the outcome is a path to lawful permanent residency rather than a temporary status.
Which employers commonly sponsor green cards for Fuel Truck Drivers?
Aviation fuel contractors, petroleum product distributors, municipal public works departments, and large fleet operators in the oil and gas sector are among the employer types with a documented history of EB-3 filings for commercial driving roles. Use Migrate Mate to identify which specific companies have active green card sponsorship openings for Fuel Truck Driver positions, filtering by location and job category.
What documents should I gather before my employer starts the PERM process?
You'll need a certified copy of your CDL and any endorsements, your motor vehicle record from every jurisdiction where you've held a commercial license, proof of your DOT medical certificate, and documentation of any hazmat training or safety certifications. Your employer's immigration attorney will use these to confirm you meet the minimum requirements stated in the PERM job description filed with the DOL.
Does my nationality affect how long the EB-3 green card process takes?
Nationals from countries with high EB-3 demand, including India and China, may face significant priority date backlogs before a visa number becomes available, even after an approved I-140. Most other nationalities fall under the Rest of World category, where EB-3 priority dates move faster. Check the monthly Visa Bulletin published by the State Department to track your category's current cut-off date.
