Document your supervisory scope precisely
PERM job descriptions must match your actual duties. Gather written records showing crew size, safety oversight, and equipment authority now, so your employer's attorney can draft a job description that survives DOL audit without amendments.
Target employers enrolled in E-Verify
Contractors and facilities operators enrolled in E-Verify are already set up for federal compliance work, which signals readiness to navigate PERM sponsorship. Search by government contract history in your trade to narrow your list to realistic sponsors.
Use OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer
Your offered wage must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and worksite county. Pulling the OFLC Wage Search result yourself lets you flag any shortfall before PERM is filed, not after a denial.
Search Migrate Mate for active green card sponsors
Find Crew Leader roles at employers with verified EB-2 and EB-3 filing history using Migrate Mate. Filtering by sponsorship type saves you from outreach to companies that have never run a PERM case in your trade.
Clarify the EB-2 versus EB-3 path with your employer
EB-3 is the default for most Crew Leader filings, but if you hold a bachelor's degree in construction management or a related field, push for EB-2 classification. The priority date queue difference can be significant depending on your country of birth.
Ask about concurrent I-485 filing eligibility
If your priority date is current when your I-140 is approved, you can file the I-485 adjustment of status at the same time. Confirm with USCIS's monthly Visa Bulletin whether your category and country are current before your case is submitted.
Green Card Crew Leader: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Crew Leader role qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. Crew Leader positions typically qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers, provided the role requires at least two years of training or experience. The employer must complete PERM labor certification with the DOL, demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available, and file an I-140 immigrant petition on your behalf before you can adjust status.
How is the green card process different from H-1B sponsorship for a Crew Leader?
Unlike H-1B visa, EB-3 green card sponsorship has no annual lottery and leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary status. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone can take six months to over a year before the I-140 is even filed. For workers from high-demand countries, priority date backlogs in EB-3 can also add significant wait time after I-140 approval.
What wage documentation does my employer need for PERM?
Your employer must obtain a Prevailing Wage Determination from the DOL before advertising the position. The offered wage in the job posting must equal or exceed that determination. Wages below the prevailing rate are a leading cause of PERM denial, so reviewing the OFLC Wage Search result for your specific SOC code and county before the posting goes live prevents costly refiling.
How do I find Crew Leader employers who actually sponsor green cards?
Most job postings don't disclose whether an employer has ever sponsored a PERM case. Migrate Mate filters Crew Leader openings by employers with documented EB-2 and EB-3 filing history, so you can focus your applications on companies that have already run the PERM process in your trade rather than starting that conversation from scratch.
Can I change Crew Leader jobs after my I-140 is approved?
Yes, under AC21 portability rules, you can change to a same or similar occupation after your I-140 has been approved for at least 180 days and your I-485 is pending. Crew Leader roles in the same trade or supervisory level generally qualify as same or similar, but you should confirm the SOC code alignment with your new employer before making the move.
