Document your supply chain credentials precisely
PERM requires your education and experience to match the job description exactly. Get official transcripts translated, verify your degree equates to a U.S. bachelor's in supply chain management or a related field, and document any specialized certifications like APICS or CPIM.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Companies in manufacturing, retail distribution, and third-party logistics regularly sponsor supply chain roles. Search the DOL's OFLC disclosure database to confirm an employer has filed PERM applications for operations titles before you apply.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers fast
Searching broadly wastes time. Migrate Mate filters supply chain jobs by green card sponsorship history so you're only seeing employers who have already committed to the PERM process for roles like yours.
Understand how job duties affect your visa category
EB-3 covers skilled workers and professionals with a bachelor's degree. EB-2 applies if your role requires an advanced degree or specialized expertise. Ask your prospective employer which category they intend to file under before accepting an offer.
Request the prevailing wage determination early
Your employer must submit a prevailing wage request to OFLC before filing PERM. Cross-check the wage level against the OFLC Wage Search using your actual job title and worksite location to catch underpayment risks before the process starts.
Negotiate PERM filing timelines into your offer
PERM processing at DOL currently runs well over a year before your employer can even file the I-140. Ask whether your offer letter includes a commitment to file within a defined window so you aren't waiting indefinitely on employer action.
Green Card Supply Chain Operations: Frequently Asked Questions
Do supply chain operations roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most supply chain operations roles qualify for EB-3 sponsorship if they require at least a bachelor's degree in a related field such as supply chain management, industrial engineering, or logistics. Roles requiring an advanced degree or specialized expertise in areas like demand modeling or global procurement strategy may qualify for EB-2. Your employer determines which category to file under based on the actual job requirements.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for supply chain professionals?
Green card sponsorship through PERM is a permanent status pathway, not a temporary work authorization. There is no annual lottery at the EB-3 level, and for many countries outside India and China there is no meaningful backlog. H-1B visa is capped at 85,000 per year and subject to a lottery. PERM takes longer, typically 18 to 36 months from start to approval, but the outcome is lawful permanent residency rather than a renewable temporary visa.
Which supply chain job titles most commonly receive PERM sponsorship?
DOL PERM filings in supply chain operations most frequently cover titles such as supply chain analyst, logistics coordinator, procurement specialist, demand planner, and inventory control manager. Roles with a defined degree requirement and clear specialty occupation profile are easier to certify. Generalist operations manager titles can face more scrutiny during the PERM audit process because the employer must demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers were available.
How do I find supply chain employers that sponsor green cards?
Search for employers with a documented history of PERM filings for supply chain roles rather than relying on job postings that mention sponsorship generically. Migrate Mate filters job listings by green card sponsorship history, so you can target companies already familiar with the PERM process for operations titles like yours, saving significant time in your search.
What happens to my green card case if I change jobs mid-process?
If you change employers before your I-140 is approved, your PERM certification does not transfer and the employer must restart the process from scratch. Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date is current or close to current, AC21 portability may allow you to change to a same or similar supply chain role without losing your place in line. Consult an immigration attorney before making any move.
