JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for a seasoned Legal Operations leader who has hands-on experience building processes. The Legal Operations leader will own the operational infrastructure of the legal department: the systems, the workflows, the data, and the support personnel; and will be expected to walk in, quickly assess what is working and what is not, and make it better without a lot of handholding. If you are comfortable having a strategy conversation with the General Counsel and in a workflow configuration screen - we would like to talk to you!
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contract Lifecycle Management:
+ Own the full CLM program - intake, negotiation, approval, execution, and renewal - ensuring nothing falls through the cracks.
+ Select, implement, and continuously optimize CLM tooling, eDiscovery platform, Legal Research tools (experience with ContractPodAi, Epiq, Westlaw, Pacer, or equivalent strongly preferred).
+ Serve as an internal subject matter expert on contract risk, rights, and obligations across business units.
- Legal Tech Stack & Systems:
- Lead the evaluation, selection, and rollout of legal department technology, including DMS, Legal Research tools, e-billing, matter management, and AI tools.
- Own ongoing system administration, vendor relationships, and performance accountability.
-
Build dashboards and reporting that give leadership real visibility into legal department activity and spend.
-
Process Design & Operations:
- Identify workflow gaps and fix them before they become someone else’s problem.
- Design and implement process controls that stick – not one-time fixes.
-
Lead cross-functional projects and internal communications that keep the legal team organized and the business informed.
-
Team & Budget Leadership:
- Own budget forecasting, vendor and Outside Counsel invoicing, and P&L accountability for the legal operations function.
- Develop staff through clear expectations, training, and performance standards.
- Develop and maintain relationships across multiple internal business stakeholders to facilitate a productive and efficient work environment across the company globally.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- 7+ years of progressive legal operations experience, including at least 2 years of managerial experience with direct reports.
- Demonstrated experience implementing or managing CLM, DMS, PMS, Legal Research tools, or e-billing platforms from selection through adoption.
- Hands on knowledge of legal tech tools – familiarity with ContractPodAI, Harvey AI, Epiq, or comparable systems is a strong plus.
- Experience managing legal operations in a high-volume environment – law firm, corporate legal department, or both.
- Strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong ability to collaborate effectively across teams and work with various stakeholders and business partners across the organization.
- Ability to draft, redline, and negotiate contracts independently.
- Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite applications (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and TEAMS).
- Strong financial acumen: budget ownership, invoice review, and P&L responsibility.
- Proven track record of building or restructuring legal operations, not just managing them and have the ability to drive innovation and adapt to evolving business needs.
- Clear, direct communication style – ability to explain legal risk to a lawyer, non-lawyer, and operational tradeoffs to a GC.
NICE TO HAVE
- Have walked into a performing legal department and enhanced output and efficiency through performance optimization.
- Have personally implemented a new technology system – not just managed the vendor who did.
- Have built reporting infrastructure that changed how leadership understood the legal function.
- Have managed and supported both attorneys and non-attorney staff and know how to get the best of both.
- Paralegal and litigation experience.
- Ability to identify and solve process gaps to improve efficiency and scalability.

Document your JD or advanced degree carefully
PERM requires your credentials to match the minimum requirements stated in the job description. If your law degree is from a non-U.S. institution, get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator before applying, so employers can confirm degree equivalency upfront.
Target law firms and corporate legal departments
Large law firms and Fortune 500 in-house legal teams sponsor green cards far more often than smaller practices. Focus on companies with dedicated HR or immigration counsel, since they already have the infrastructure to run PERM labor certifications without treating your case as a first.
Search for sponsors using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Legal Operations Manager roles by employers with active green card sponsorship history. This lets you skip companies that have never filed PERM and focus your applications where permanent residency sponsorship is already a standard hiring practice.
Verify the posted wage meets DOL prevailing wage
Before accepting an offer, check the OFLC Wage Search to confirm the salary offered meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for your occupation and work location. If it falls below, PERM certification will fail regardless of how strong the rest of your application is.
Negotiate your job description before PERM filing starts
The PERM job description locks in the role requirements DOL advertises during recruitment. Vague titles like 'legal operations manager' can create specialty occupation ambiguity at the I-140 stage, so work with your employer to ensure duties and degree requirements are clearly defined before filing begins.
Plan your timeline around concurrent filing eligibility
If your priority date is current, EB-2 and EB-3 candidates from most countries can file the I-485 adjustment of status concurrently with the I-140 petition, cutting your wait considerably. Confirm your country's visa bulletin category with USCIS before assuming concurrent filing is available to you.
Green Card Legal Operations Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Legal Operations Manager role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Legal Operations Manager positions typically qualify for both EB-2 and EB-3 depending on how the employer defines the role's minimum requirements. EB-2 applies when the role requires an advanced degree or a bachelor's degree plus five years of progressive experience. EB-3 covers roles where a bachelor's degree alone meets the stated minimum. The PERM labor certification locks in whichever category the employer designates at the time of filing.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
Green card sponsorship via PERM leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary work visa. Unlike the H-1B visa, there is no annual lottery and no cap concern at the EB-3 level for most countries. The trade-off is time: PERM, I-140, and adjustment of status together typically take two to four years for non-backlogged nationals, compared to H-1B status that can begin in months. The outcome, however, is lawful permanent residence, not a visa tied to a single employer.
What does the PERM process look like for a Legal Operations Manager position?
Your employer files an Application for Permanent Employment Certification with DOL, demonstrating that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the role at the prevailing wage. DOL requires a formal recruitment campaign, including job postings, before certifying the application. Once PERM is certified, the employer files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. If your priority date is current, you can then file the I-485 to adjust status to permanent resident.
How do I find Legal Operations Manager jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Most job postings don't disclose green card sponsorship upfront, which makes it difficult to filter by sponsorship intent during a standard job search. Migrate Mate is built specifically for this: it surfaces Legal Operations Manager roles from employers with verified green card filing history, so you can target companies that are already set up to run PERM and sponsor permanent residency rather than learning as they go.
Can my employer start PERM while I'm on H-1B status?
Yes. Running PERM concurrently with H-1B status is standard practice and does not affect your nonimmigrant intent. Many Legal Operations professionals begin the green card process one to two years into their H-1B period to preserve AC21 portability rights, which allow you to change employers or roles after the I-140 is approved, as long as the new position is in the same occupational classification.
