Green Card Service Tech Jobs
Service Tech roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship when the position requires specialized technical training and a U.S. employer is willing to file PERM labor certification. Sponsorship converts a temporary job offer into permanent residency, with no annual lottery and a direct path through I-140 to a green card.

Document your technical certifications before applying
Gather manufacturer certifications, trade licenses, and any formal apprenticeship completions into one organized package. PERM requires your employer to verify your qualifications meet the job's minimum requirements, and gaps in documentation delay the process.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Search DOL PERM disclosure data to identify service companies that have sponsored foreign technicians before. Employers already familiar with the PERM process move faster and are less likely to withdraw sponsorship mid-filing due to unfamiliarity with costs or timelines.
Search green card sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Service Tech openings by employers with verified green card sponsorship history. You can identify which companies have sponsored technicians through EB-3 and start your outreach with confirmed sponsors rather than guessing.
Clarify sponsorship intent before accepting any offer
Ask the hiring manager directly whether the company will commit to PERM filing, not just H-1B visa transfer. Some service employers assume a temporary work visa is sufficient and haven't budgeted for the full PERM and I-140 costs that employment-based green card sponsorship requires.
Check the prevailing wage for your service tech specialty
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your specific O*NET occupation code before negotiating salary. PERM requires your employer to pay at least the DOL prevailing wage, and if your offered salary falls below it, the labor certification will be denied.
Understand the PERM recruitment audit risk for skilled trades
PERM for EB-3 skilled worker roles requires employers to run a mandatory recruitment process proving no qualified U.S. workers are available. DOL audits a significant share of these filings, so confirm your sponsoring employer has legal counsel experienced with skilled trade PERM cases.
Green Card Service Tech: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Service Tech jobs qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Service Tech roles qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers, which requires at least two years of training or experience. If your position requires a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field, EB-2 may also apply. Your employer files PERM labor certification with DOL to start either pathway, followed by an I-140 petition with USCIS.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for a Service Tech role?
H-1B is a temporary visa requiring annual renewals and is subject to a lottery that most applicants don't win. EB-3 green card sponsorship has no lottery and no annual cap concern for most nationalities, but it takes longer, typically several years from PERM to approval. The end result is permanent residency rather than a temporary work authorization that can expire or go unselected.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for a Service Tech position?
Your employer submits a PERM application to DOL certifying that no qualified U.S. workers were available for the role at the prevailing wage. This requires a documented recruitment campaign, including job postings and applicant reviews. DOL reviews the application and may audit it, which can add months to the timeline. Only after PERM certification can your employer file the I-140 petition with USCIS.
How can I find Service Tech employers that sponsor green cards?
Migrate Mate lets you search Service Tech jobs filtered specifically by employers with green card sponsorship history. This saves you from applying broadly and discovering sponsorship limitations only after an offer. Focusing on employers who have completed PERM filings before significantly increases the likelihood that your sponsorship will proceed without delays or withdrawals.
How long does the EB-3 green card process take for a Service Tech worker?
From PERM filing to a green card, the EB-3 process typically runs three to six years or longer, depending on your country of birth and the current USCIS priority date backlog. PERM itself takes six to eighteen months, the I-140 adds several months more, and adjustment of status or consular processing follows. Nationals of countries with high immigration demand face the longest waits due to per-country annual limits.
