Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Purchasing Assistant
Document your procurement credentials before applying
Gather degree transcripts, supplier negotiation records, and purchase order management experience now. PERM requires your employer to certify your qualifications meet the job's minimum requirements, so gaps in documentation slow the labor certification filing.
Target PERM-filing employers in supply-chain-heavy industries
Manufacturing, healthcare distribution, and retail chains file PERM for Purchasing Assistants far more often than professional services firms. Filter your job search by industry first, then confirm the employer has an immigration sponsorship policy before investing time in applications.
Search green card sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate lets you filter Purchasing Assistant openings by employers with active PERM and EB-3 filing history, so you're not guessing which companies sponsor. Connecting with verified sponsoring employers early cuts weeks from your job search.
Verify the employer's prevailing wage using OFLC Wage Search
Before accepting an offer, cross-check the offered salary against DOL's OFLC Wage Search for your job title and work location. If the wage falls below the prevailing wage determination, PERM certification will be denied regardless of employer intent to sponsor you.
Negotiate green card sponsorship into your offer letter
Ask employers to specify the EB-2 or EB-3 category and confirm they'll cover PERM attorney costs before you sign. Verbal commitments on sponsorship are unenforceable, and switching employers mid-process restarts the PERM clock unless you meet strict portability conditions.
Understand the EB-3 priority date before filing begins
Check the USCIS Visa Bulletin for your country's EB-3 priority date before your employer files the I-140. Nationals from high-backlog countries face multi-year waits after I-140 approval, and knowing this upfront helps you plan your stay on a bridging nonimmigrant status.
Green Card Purchasing Assistant: Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Purchasing Assistant role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Purchasing Assistant positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled worker or professional roles, since they typically require at least a bachelor's degree or two or more years of specialized training. If the specific role requires an advanced degree in supply chain management, business, or a related field, EB-2 sponsorship may apply. Your employer determines the category based on the actual job requirements documented in the PERM application.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for Purchasing Assistants?
The H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant visa subject to an annual lottery cap, while PERM sponsorship leads to lawful permanent residency with no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most countries. The PERM process involves a DOL labor market test and typically takes 12 to 24 months before you can file the I-140 petition, making it slower than H-1B but permanent in outcome. There's no lottery, so your employer's willingness to file is the primary variable.
Where can I find Purchasing Assistant jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search, letting you filter Purchasing Assistant openings by employers with verified PERM and EB-3 filing history. General job boards don't surface sponsorship data, so you'd otherwise need to research each employer's immigration history manually through DOL disclosure files, which is time-consuming and opaque.
What does a U.S. employer need to do to sponsor a Purchasing Assistant for a green card?
The employer must file a PERM labor certification with the DOL, demonstrating through recruitment that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the role at the prevailing wage. Once certified, the employer files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. The entire process requires the employer to commit legal and filing resources, which is why many smaller firms decline to sponsor even when they're interested in foreign candidates.
Does the Purchasing Assistant role need to be a specialty occupation for PERM sponsorship to work?
No. The specialty occupation standard applies to H-1B visas, not PERM-based green card sponsorship. EB-3 covers skilled workers whose roles require at least two years of training or experience, even if a bachelor's degree isn't strictly required. Purchasing Assistants typically qualify because the role involves specialized knowledge of procurement processes, vendor management, and ERP systems that can't be learned without structured training or prior experience.
