Medical Physicist Green Card Jobs
Medical Physicist roles at hospital systems, cancer centers, and research universities qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification. Employers file with DOL before petitioning USCIS, making this one of the cleaner paths to permanent residency for advanced-degree professionals in the physical sciences.

Verify your degree qualifies for EB-2
A master's or doctoral degree in medical physics, health physics, or a closely related physical science field positions you for EB-2. USCIS scrutinizes whether your specific degree field aligns with the job duties, so a transcript review before applying saves costly delays.
Target CAMPEP-accredited clinical programs first
Hospital systems and cancer centers running CAMPEP-accredited residency or clinical programs have structured hiring pipelines and prior PERM experience. These employers already understand the DOL prevailing wage process, which shortens your timeline from offer letter to filed petition.
Look up prevailing wage before salary negotiations
Run your target job title and location through the OFLC Wage Search before you negotiate. If your offered salary falls below the DOL-certified prevailing wage for your ZIP code, the LCA will be rejected and PERM cannot proceed.
Search green-card-sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Filter by medical physicist roles on Migrate Mate to find employers with active green card sponsorship history. Targeting employers who have filed PERM before eliminates the education-and-convince step that stalls many foreign candidates.
Document your clinical hours and board certification early
ABR board certification and documented clinical hours are required for most medical physicist positions and become part of the PERM job requirements. Gaps in clinical documentation can trigger a PERM audit, so organize these records before your employer begins the recruitment phase.
Understand the PERM recruitment audit window
DOL requires employers to run recruitment and retain all advertising records for five years after PERM filing. If your employer is new to PERM, walk their HR team through the standard recruitment steps so the audit trail is complete before submission.

Find Medical Physicist JobsMedical Physicist Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does medical physicist qualify as a specialty occupation for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. Medical physicist is classified under O*NET as a Life, Physical, and Social Science occupation requiring at minimum a master's degree for entry into clinical practice. Most hospital and cancer center roles qualify for EB-2 given the advanced degree requirement. Roles with a bachelor's degree minimum can qualify under EB-3 as a professional.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for a medical physicist?
H-1B is a temporary status capped at six years without an approved I-140, subject to an annual lottery, and tied to one employer. EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM is permanent, has no annual lottery, and grants lawful permanent residency. The trade-off is timeline: PERM labor certification alone takes six to eighteen months before USCIS even receives the I-140 petition.
Which employers typically sponsor green cards for medical physicists?
Academic medical centers, NCI-designated cancer centers, large hospital health systems, and radiation oncology groups are the most active PERM filers for medical physicist roles. These organizations have established immigration counsel and recurring hiring needs. Use Migrate Mate to filter by employers with documented green card sponsorship history so you spend your applications on confirmed sponsors.
What role does ABR board certification play in the PERM process?
If the employer lists ABR board certification as a job requirement, DOL will hold that as the minimum qualification standard during PERM review. You must meet that requirement at the time of filing, not just by the time you adjust status. Clarify with your employer whether certification is listed as required or preferred before the PERM application is drafted.
Can my employer start PERM while I'm on an OPT or H-1B extension?
Yes. PERM labor certification can begin at any point during lawful authorized employment. Many employers initiate PERM during an H-1B period specifically to preserve the priority date and capture AC21 portability benefits. If you're on OPT, confirm your employer is willing to file before your OPT expires and factor in the PERM timeline when evaluating offer timing.
