Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Microsoft Power Platform
Document your Power Platform specialization early
Gather evidence of Power Automate, Power Apps, and Power BI project work before job searching. PERM requires demonstrating your qualifications match the role's minimum requirements, so performance reviews, deployment records, and certifications all count toward your credential profile.
Target employers with active PERM filing histories
Search the DOL's PERM disclosure data to identify companies that have sponsored Power Platform or adjacent developer roles before. Employers already familiar with the PERM process for technical roles move faster and are less likely to stall on sponsorship logistics.
Clarify the EB-2 versus EB-3 distinction upfront
If your role requires a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field, you likely qualify for EB-3. A master's degree or demonstrated equivalent experience can support EB-2 classification, which matters for priority date timing depending on your country of birth.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Power Platform jobs by sponsorship
Search Migrate Mate to find Microsoft Power Platform roles where employers have documented green card sponsorship activity. Filtering by sponsorship history saves time you'd otherwise spend cold-emailing recruiters who don't have PERM infrastructure in place.
Negotiate sponsorship terms before accepting an offer
Confirm in writing whether the employer covers PERM attorney fees and filing costs, and ask about their typical timeline from offer to I-140 approval. Some employers start PERM only after a probationary period, which can delay your priority date by a year or more.
Verify your job duties align with the PERM job description
The DOL requires that PERM job duties match your actual day-to-day work. If your Power Platform role spans administration, development, and integration, confirm the employer's attorney captures the full scope, because a mismatch between duties and the certified description can cause RFE issues during I-140 adjudication.
Green Card Microsoft Power Platform: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Microsoft Power Platform roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Both categories apply depending on the role requirements and your credentials. Power Platform developer and consultant positions that require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field typically qualify under EB-3. If the role requires an advanced degree or you can demonstrate equivalent experience, EB-2 classification may be available, which can affect your priority date timeline based on your country of birth.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for Power Platform professionals?
H-1B visa is a temporary work visa with a three-year initial period and no path to permanent residency on its own. PERM is the first step toward a green card, meaning lawful permanent residency. There's no annual lottery for EB-3 petitions, and while the PERM process takes longer upfront (often 12 to 24 months from labor certification to I-140 approval), the outcome is permanent status rather than a visa you must repeatedly renew.
What credentials strengthen a PERM sponsorship case for a Power Platform role?
A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field is the baseline. Microsoft certifications such as PL-200, PL-400, or PL-600 demonstrate platform-specific proficiency and can reinforce that the role is a specialty occupation. Documented project experience with Power Automate flows, Power Apps solutions, or Dataverse implementations supports the technical specialization argument the PERM process requires.
How do I find Power Platform employers who are willing to sponsor a green card?
Migrate Mate lets you search Microsoft Power Platform roles filtered by green card sponsorship history, so you can focus on employers who have actually gone through the PERM process before. Targeting companies with prior PERM filings in technical roles reduces the risk of an employer agreeing to sponsor and then stalling because they lack the legal infrastructure or internal process to move forward.
Can a foreign national on OPT or H-1B start the PERM green card process while employed as a Power Platform specialist?
Yes. Employers can begin PERM labor certification while you're authorized to work on OPT or H-1B status. The PERM filing and subsequent I-140 petition don't affect your current work authorization. If you're on H-1B and your I-140 is approved before your sixth year, you may be eligible to extend your H-1B beyond the standard six-year limit under AC21 portability rules while your green card case is pending.
