Document your platform architecture contributions precisely
PERM requires your employer to define a specific job with specific requirements. Gather evidence of your work on distributed systems, API gateways, or cloud infrastructure so your job description accurately reflects your actual duties and supports the EB-2 or EB-3 classification.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Not every tech employer has run PERM before. Focus on companies in cloud infrastructure, SaaS, and enterprise software that have filed PERM certifications for platform or infrastructure roles, since they already understand the DOL recruitment documentation requirements.
Use Migrate Mate to filter sponsoring employers by role
Search Platform Developer jobs on Migrate Mate to identify employers who have sponsored green cards for similar technical roles, so you spend your time on applications where sponsorship is genuinely on the table rather than negotiating it from scratch.
Verify your role qualifies under the right EB category
EB-2 requires a position demanding an advanced degree or equivalent; EB-3 covers roles requiring a bachelor's degree. Check the O*NET occupation profile for Platform Developer to confirm the standard education and experience requirements your employer will use in the PERM job description.
Request employer confirmation before the PERM recruitment phase
Once an offer is on the table, ask whether the employer is prepared to run the mandatory DOL recruitment steps, including job postings and documentation review. Delays in starting PERM recruitment extend your overall green card timeline by months.
Understand priority date backlogs before accepting an offer
EB-3 has no annual cap on petitions, but visa number availability depends on your birth country and the monthly State Department Visa Bulletin. Candidates from high-demand countries can face multi-year waits between I-140 approval and adjustment of status, which affects your planning.
Green Card Platform Developer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Platform Developer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Platform Developer positions typically qualify under EB-3 when the employer requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. EB-2 applies when the role requires an advanced degree or when you can demonstrate specialized expertise that justifies the higher classification. Your employer's PERM job description, not just your credentials, determines which category fits.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for Platform Developer roles?
H-1B visa is a temporary status requiring annual renewals and subject to the lottery. PERM-based green card sponsorship is permanent residency, with no lottery and no cap on EB-3 petitions themselves. The tradeoff is time: PERM labor certification and I-140 approval can take one to three years before you reach the visa number queue, depending on your country of birth.
Where can I find Platform Developer jobs with green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Platform Developer roles where employers have a documented history of green card sponsorship. That filtering saves time you'd otherwise spend asking recruiters whether sponsorship is possible, since it surfaces only employers who have already run the PERM process for comparable technical roles.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from a Platform Developer employer?
PERM requires your employer to conduct a formal recruitment process, post the position publicly, and document that no qualified U.S. workers applied before sponsoring a foreign national. For platform development roles, the job description must specify the degree field, technical requirements, and duties accurately, since USCIS will later match the I-140 petition against the certified PERM application.
How long does the green card process take for a Platform Developer?
From PERM filing to green card approval, the process typically spans two to five years or longer, depending on your country of birth and the State Department Visa Bulletin backlog. PERM certification alone can take six to eighteen months at DOL. Applicants born in countries without significant backlogs often reach adjustment of status faster once the I-140 is approved.
