- Conduct and review engineering calculations such as grounding/earthing studies, short-circuit analysis, cable ampacity sizing, load flow analysis, and AC/DC voltage drop calculations.
- Size and optimize DC cable routes for solar arrays, including string sizing, routing from modules to combiner boxes/disconnect switches, and cable tray/conduit planning.
- Develop and deliver detailed solar plant design packages, including DC/AC electrical single-line diagrams, cable schedules, equipment specifications, and construction-ready drawings.
- Perform energy production estimates, system performance modeling, and techno-economic evaluations.
- Support interconnection studies and protection coordination activities as needed.
- Provide technical leadership to junior engineers, including guidance, mentoring, review of work quality, and professional development support.
- Contribute to studies of front-of-the-meter and behind-the-meter microgrid facilities, including planning, design, and interconnection.
- Demonstrate willingness to expand capabilities into substation design, protection, and power system studies associated with utility-scale solar and BESS interconnections.
- Support proposal development, scope definition, and client communication as required.
At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Power Systems Engineer
Benchmark your wage against PERM requirements
Before applying, look up the prevailing wage for Power Systems Engineer roles using the OFLC Wage Search. PERM requires your offered salary to meet DOL's wage level, and a mismatch can delay or derail your certification.
Target employers with PERM filing history
Utilities, independent system operators, and engineering consultancies handling grid infrastructure regularly sponsor foreign workers. Use Migrate Mate to filter Power Systems Engineer roles by employers with active green card sponsorship history, saving you from cold outreach.
Align your credentials to EB-2 advanced-degree standards
EB-2 sponsorship requires a master's degree or a bachelor's plus five years of progressive experience. Get foreign degrees evaluated by a NACES-accredited agency before your employer files, since USCIS scrutinizes credential equivalency closely for engineering roles.
Negotiate PERM filing into your offer early
Ask whether the employer will sponsor PERM before accepting an offer, not after onboarding. Many utilities have internal immigration counsel, but smaller energy firms may need time to engage outside counsel and budget for DOL filing costs.
Understand how your PE license affects the PERM job description
If the role requires a Professional Engineer license, DOL's PERM audit process will scrutinize whether that requirement is standard for the position. An overly narrow job description can trigger a supervised recruitment audit, which adds months to your timeline.

Find Power Systems Engineer JobsPower Systems Engineer Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Power Systems Engineer qualify as a specialty occupation for green card sponsorship?
Yes. Power Systems Engineers typically require at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field, which satisfies both the EB-3 professional category and the advanced-degree standard for EB-2. The role involves analyzing transmission networks, designing protection schemes, and modeling grid stability, all of which align with DOL's specialty occupation criteria under PERM.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B is a temporary work visa with a lottery and a six-year base limit. PERM leads to permanent residency with no annual cap at the EB-3 petition level for most countries outside India and China. The tradeoff is time: PERM labor certification alone takes six months to over a year, whereas H-1B can be approved in weeks with premium processing.
Which employers sponsor green cards for Power Systems Engineers?
Utilities, regional transmission organizations, national laboratories, and large engineering consultancies are the most consistent sponsors. Federal contractors working on grid modernization and renewable integration projects also sponsor regularly, since demand for qualified foreign engineers often exceeds the domestic candidate pool for specialized transmission and protection roles.
How can I find Power Systems Engineer jobs that include green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Power Systems Engineer roles where employers have documented green card sponsorship history, filtering out postings that say 'sponsorship not available.' That targeting saves significant time compared to applying broadly and discovering sponsorship limitations after multiple interview rounds.
Can I switch employers after my I-140 is approved?
Yes, under AC21 portability rules, you can change employers once your I-140 has been approved and your I-485 adjustment of status application has been pending for 180 days or more. The new role must be in the same or a similar occupational classification, so moving between Power Systems Engineer positions at different employers generally qualifies.
