Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Principal Solutions Engineer
Document your specialty occupation credentials early
Gather transcripts, professional certifications, and employer letters that tie your degree directly to solutions engineering work. PERM requires proof your role demands a specific field of study, not just any bachelor's degree.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Search OFLC disclosure data for companies that have filed PERM applications under SOC codes for solutions engineers or related roles. Employers already familiar with the process are far less likely to withdraw sponsorship midway.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Filter Principal Solutions Engineer roles by verified green card sponsorship history on Migrate Mate. This cuts out the guesswork of cold-applying to employers who haven't sponsored PERM cases before.
Clarify the EB-2 versus EB-3 path before accepting an offer
Ask your prospective employer whether they intend to file under EB-2 or EB-3. If your role requires only a bachelor's degree, USCIS may reject an EB-2 petition, so aligning on category before the PERM audit prevents costly restarts.
Verify prevailing wage before your offer is finalized
Your employer must pay at least the DOL-determined prevailing wage for your job location and level. Look up your role on the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating so you know the floor, not just the market range.
Understand how recruitment timing affects your green card start date
PERM requires your employer to complete a supervised recruitment process before filing. That process alone can take three to six months, so your priority date, which determines your place in the green card queue, won't be set until PERM is approved.
Green Card Principal Solutions Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Principal Solutions Engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. If the job requires a master's degree or a bachelor's plus substantial specialized experience, EB-2 is likely the right category. Roles requiring only a bachelor's degree in a relevant field typically fall under EB-3. Your employer's HR and immigration counsel determine the category, and it must be consistent with the actual job duties described in the PERM filing.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary status requiring renewal every three years, with no path to permanent residency built in and annual lottery risk. Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 leads to lawful permanent residency with no renewal cycles. There is no annual cap on EB-3 petitions themselves, though priority date backlogs for certain countries can extend wait times significantly. The timeline from PERM filing to a green card approval typically runs two to five years for most nationalities.
What does my employer actually have to do to sponsor my green card?
Your employer starts by submitting a prevailing wage request to DOL, then conducts a supervised recruitment campaign to show no qualified U.S. workers are available for the role. Once DOL certifies the PERM application, your employer files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS on your behalf. You can then apply to adjust your status to permanent resident once a visa number becomes available for your country and preference category.
How do I find Principal Solutions Engineer jobs that specifically offer green card sponsorship?
Most job postings don't state explicitly whether an employer has PERM experience or willingness. Migrate Mate surfaces roles specifically tied to employers with verified green card sponsorship history, so you can focus your applications on companies that have already navigated the PERM process for similar roles rather than educating a hiring manager on the process from scratch.
Can I switch jobs while my green card is in process?
Once your I-140 has been approved and your priority date is current or you've had an I-485 pending for 180 days, AC21 portability allows you to change to a same or similar role without restarting the green card process. For Principal Solutions Engineers, a move to another solutions engineering or pre-sales technical role at a new employer generally qualifies, but your new employer must be willing to continue the sponsorship and file the necessary documentation with USCIS.
