Green Card Senior Automation Specialist Jobs
Senior Automation Specialist roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field. Employers file PERM labor certification with the DOL before sponsoring permanent residency, making this a direct path to a U.S. green card rather than a renewable temporary status.

Job Description
We’re hiring a Staff Equipment Engineer within our growing Operations Engineering team. In this role, you will serve as a primary technical lead for the automated equipment required to ramp production of our iron air battery. You will own the processes and improvements of complex robotic cells and automated hardware, driving technical decisions that eliminate manufacturing bottlenecks and ensure long-term equipment reliability. By continuously improving standards for automated equipment and precision control, you will ensure our production environment delivers a high volume of top quality products. Your leadership will be the cornerstone in transforming advanced battery technology into a world-class, automated manufacturing reality that secures global energy reliability.
What You’ll Do
- Own and improve semi-manual and automated manufacturing equipment for modular products.
- Define and implement OEE and equipment performance metrics to identify loss drivers and prioritize improvement work.
- Collaborate with product design and process development engineering to provide DFM/DFA feedback, ensuring optimization for fully-automated, high-speed manufacturing.
- Drive cross-functional alignment with controls and process teams to improve solutions such as torque tools, lift devices, vision checks, interlocks, and other equipment.
- Lead root-cause analysis of assembly and quality issues, turning findings into durable equipment improvements that ensure safe and repeatable production.
- Support production ramp and sustaining operations, stabilizing builds and reducing variation across shifts.
- Mentor and guide multidisciplinary engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence in equipment handling and pragmatic problem-solving.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Controls, or a related discipline and 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Deep technical understanding of semi-manual and automated equipment for complex systems.
- Demonstrated expertise with Fanuc Robotics and other automation equipment.
- Extensive experience developing assembly methods, tooling, fixtures, and work instructions in an automated production environment.
- Proven track record of providing DFM/DFA feedback to product design and process development teams, influencing part design, interfaces, tolerances, and fastening strategies to improve manufacturability.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and address process, design, and human-factor-driven issues.
- Effective communicator across production, quality, and design teams.
Where you'll work:
This role is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV—an easy commute from the city of Pittsburgh, PA. This 550,000-square-foot facility is our hub for high-volume battery production and a leader in the new era of American energy manufacturing. Relocation assistance is available.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Senior Automation Specialist
Document your automation credentials precisely
PERM requires your employer to advertise the role and prove no qualified U.S. worker is available. Your degree, certifications like PLC programming or SCADA, and documented project outcomes need to match the advertised job duties exactly to survive DOL audit.
Target manufacturers already running PERM cases
Automotive, aerospace, and semiconductor manufacturers file PERM for automation roles regularly. Search for companies with active labor certification history through the DOL's OFLC disclosure data, filtering by SOC code 17-2112 for industrial engineers and adjacent automation titles.
Clarify EB-2 versus EB-3 before accepting an offer
If your role requires only a bachelor's degree, the employer may file EB-3. If it requires a master's or equivalent experience, push for EB-2 filing. Your priority date and wait time differ significantly depending on your birth country and the category filed.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Search for Senior Automation Specialist roles with green card sponsorship history using Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers by their actual PERM and I-140 filing records, not just job posting claims, so you spend time on genuinely viable opportunities.
Confirm your employer's E-Verify enrollment early
PERM-sponsoring employers are not automatically enrolled in E-Verify, but certain federal contractors are required to be. Confirming enrollment before you accept an offer avoids delays when USCIS processes your I-140 and eventual adjustment of status application.
Negotiate portability protections into your employment terms
Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date is current, AC21 portability lets you change to a same-or-similar role after 180 days without restarting the green card process. Get written clarity from your employer on how they handle job changes mid-process.
Green Card Senior Automation Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Automation Specialist role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Both categories are possible depending on how your employer defines the position. EB-3 applies when the role requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science. EB-2 applies when the position requires a master's degree or equivalent, typically demonstrated through a bachelor's plus five years of progressive automation experience in roles like controls engineering, robotics, or PLC programming.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary status requiring renewal every three years with no direct path to permanence. Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 leads to lawful permanent residency. There's no annual lottery for EB-2 or EB-3 petitions, though priority date backlogs affect applicants born in India and China. For most other nationalities, the EB-3 category is current or moves faster than H-1B renewal cycles.
What does the PERM labor certification process look like for automation roles?
Your employer files a PERM application with the DOL certifying that no qualified U.S. worker is available for your specific position. For Senior Automation Specialist roles, the advertised job duties must reflect what you actually do, including specific systems like SCADA, DCS, or robotics platforms. DOL audits are common in engineering categories, so documentation of your technical qualifications needs to be airtight before filing.
Where can I find employers who actively sponsor green cards for automation roles?
Migrate Mate lets you filter job listings by verified PERM and I-140 filing history, so you can identify manufacturers, utilities, and engineering firms that have actually sponsored automation specialists before. Searching by employer filing record is more reliable than relying on job postings that mention sponsorship without a track record to back it up.
Can I switch employers after my I-140 is approved without losing my place in line?
Yes, under AC21 portability rules enforced by USCIS, you can change to a same-or-similar role after your I-140 has been approved for at least 180 days. Senior Automation Specialist and related titles like controls engineer or process automation engineer generally satisfy the same-or-similar standard, but you should confirm with your immigration attorney before making a move.
