Document your print-specific portfolio thoroughly
PERM labor certification requires your employer to prove the role demands your exact qualifications. Organize your portfolio by medium, print process, and software proficiency so it directly maps to the job duties listed in the PERM application.
Target employers with dedicated in-house print teams
Publishers, packaging firms, and large retail brands often maintain in-house print design departments, making sustained PERM sponsorship more viable than agencies where project-based contracts are the norm and headcount fluctuates.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
DOL requires your offered salary to meet the prevailing wage for your SOC code and work location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to confirm the wage level before accepting any offer, since the PERM application locks in that figure.
Clarify EB-2 versus EB-3 eligibility early
Print Designer roles typically file under EB-3 for professionals with a bachelor's degree, but advanced-degree professionals with an MFA or equivalent may qualify under EB-2, which can shorten priority date wait times for some nationalities.
Search for green card sponsoring jobs on Migrate Mate
Filter by job title and visa type on Migrate Mate to find Print Designer openings at employers with active EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship history, saving you from applying to roles where sponsorship is uncertain or unavailable.
Ask about PERM recruitment timing before signing
USCIS requires your employer to complete DOL-mandated recruitment steps before filing PERM, a process that takes months. Confirm your prospective employer understands this timeline so your start date and sponsorship filing don't conflict.
Green Card Print Designer: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Print Designer roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Print Designer positions qualify under EB-3 for professionals holding a bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communications, or a related field. If you hold an MFA or a master's degree and your employer can justify the advanced degree requirement in the job description, EB-2 may also be available. Your employer selects the category when filing the PERM labor certification with DOL.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for Print Designers?
H-1B visa sponsorship is temporary, capped at 85,000 per year, and subject to a lottery. Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 leads to permanent residency with no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most nationalities. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone takes six months to over a year before USCIS even begins reviewing the I-140 petition.
How long does the PERM process take for a Print Designer role?
DOL currently takes several months to audit or certify PERM applications, and your employer must complete mandatory recruitment steps before filing. Once PERM is certified, your employer files the I-140 with USCIS. From PERM filing to an approved I-140, budget 12 to 24 months in a straightforward case, not counting priority date wait times that apply to some nationalities.
Where can I find Print Designer jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Print Designer roles at employers with documented EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship activity, so you're not guessing at whether a company will sponsor. Filtering by visa type and job title upfront saves significant time compared to vetting each posting individually after applying.
What does my employer need to prove during PERM labor certification for a Print Designer role?
Your employer must demonstrate to DOL that no qualified, available U.S. worker was found for the position. They run a prescribed set of recruitment activities, document the results, and certify that your offered salary meets the prevailing wage for the role and location. The job description used in recruitment must accurately reflect your actual duties and the minimum qualifications you hold.
