Translate procurement credentials for PERM documentation
Your PERM application requires evidence that your role meets specialty occupation standards. Compile contracts you negotiated, vendor portfolios you managed, and cost-savings outcomes you led. Dollar figures and scope data make your file far harder to challenge at the DOL stage.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Not every company that hires Procurement Directors sponsors green cards. Search OFLC disclosure data to confirm a prospective employer has filed PERM certifications for similar director-level supply chain roles before reaching out or accepting an offer.
Use Migrate Mate to filter sponsoring employers
Use Migrate Mate to search Procurement Director openings by green card sponsorship history. Filtering by EB-2 or EB-3 eligibility before applying saves months you'd otherwise spend pursuing roles where sponsorship was never on the table.
Clarify EB-2 versus EB-3 eligibility with your employer early
Procurement Directors with an MBA or specialized master's degree often qualify for EB-2, which can mean a shorter priority date wait for many countries. Confirm which category your employer intends to file under before your job offer is finalized, not after.
Prepare for the PERM supervised recruitment window
DOL requires employers to run a specific recruitment process before PERM certification. Understand that this window typically runs 30 to 60 days and that your employer cannot file until it closes, so account for this in any timeline you negotiate with HR.
Build an O*NET-aligned job description with your HR team
PERM audits often target job descriptions that are too broad or narrow relative to the occupation. Work with your employer's HR team to align your Procurement Director duties with the O*NET occupation profile, reducing the risk of a DOL audit or denial.
Green Card Procurement Director: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Procurement Director role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Procurement Director positions can qualify under both EB-2 and EB-3 depending on how the employer defines the role's minimum requirements. EB-2 applies when the position requires an advanced degree, such as an MBA or master's in supply chain management. EB-3 covers roles where a bachelor's degree is the stated minimum. Your employer's attorney sets the category when drafting the PERM job description.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary work visa with a two-year grace period and annual cap lottery risk. EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency with no annual cap at the petition level. The tradeoff is time: PERM labor certification, I-140, and adjustment of status often take two to four years total, though you can typically remain employed while the case is pending.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for employers hiring a Procurement Director?
Your employer must conduct DOL-supervised recruitment to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available for the role. This includes posting the job for a set period, documenting all applicants considered, and filing the ETA 9089 with DOL. The Procurement Director job description must match the duties you actually perform and align with prevailing wage data from OFLC's Wage Search to avoid audit flags.
How can I find employers willing to sponsor a green card for a Procurement Director?
Most job postings don't advertise green card sponsorship openly, so searching OFLC disclosure data for prior PERM filings by employer and job title is one reliable method. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with active EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history specifically for roles like Procurement Director, letting you target your applications before spending time in interviews with employers who have no sponsorship track record.
Can I switch employers after my PERM is filed but before my green card is approved?
If your I-140 petition has been approved for at least 180 days and your adjustment of status application has been pending for 180 days or more, portability rules under AC21 allow you to change to a same or similar occupational classification without losing your priority date. Procurement and supply chain director roles are often considered similar enough to port, but confirm this with your immigration attorney before accepting a new offer.
