Program Assistant Green Card Jobs
Program Assistant roles at nonprofits, universities, and federal contractors regularly qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification. Employers document that no qualified U.S. worker is available before filing your I-140 petition, putting you on a permanent path to U.S. residency rather than cycling through temporary visa renewals.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Program Assistant
Frame your degree field for PERM
PERM requires your employer to specify a minimum education requirement tied to the role. A bachelor's in public administration, social work, or a related field strengthens the job description and reduces the risk of a DOL audit challenging your qualifications.
Target employers with existing PERM infrastructure
Nonprofits with federal funding, research universities, and government contractors file PERM petitions routinely. These organizations already have immigration counsel on retainer, so your sponsorship request doesn't require them to build a new process from scratch.
Search green card sponsors using Migrate Mate
Filter Program Assistant postings by employers with active EB-2 and EB-3 filing history on Migrate Mate. This shows you which organizations have already navigated PERM for similar roles, cutting your research time significantly.
Distinguish EB-2 from EB-3 before accepting an offer
If your role requires a master's degree or you have a National Interest Waiver case, push for EB-2 classification. EB-3 covers bachelor's-level positions but may carry longer priority date waits for certain nationalities, so confirm your category before the I-140 is filed.
Verify prevailing wage before your offer letter
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your location and job zone. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your specific metro area before negotiating, so your offered salary clears the PERM requirement without renegotiation later.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before your start date
USCIS requires employers sponsoring green cards to complete Form I-9 verification. If your employer isn't enrolled in E-Verify, flag this during onboarding, since some federal contractors are legally required to use it and gaps can complicate your PERM timeline.

Find Program Assistant JobsProgram Assistant Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Program Assistant jobs commonly qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. Program Assistant roles that require a bachelor's degree in a specific field, such as public administration, social work, or communications, typically qualify as EB-3 professionals. The key is that the position description must genuinely require a degree rather than merely prefer one, which shapes how your employer structures the PERM labor certification.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for a Program Assistant role?
H-1B status is temporary, capped at 85,000 per year, and subject to an annual lottery. EB-3 green card sponsorship has no annual lottery and, once your priority date is current, leads to permanent residency. The PERM process takes longer upfront, often 18 to 36 months from start to approval, but the outcome is permanent status rather than a visa you must renew every three years.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for this role?
Your employer must conduct a DOL-supervised recruitment process showing no qualified U.S. worker applied for the Program Assistant position. This includes placing job ads in specific outlets for a defined window, documenting all applicants, and filing the ETA Form 9089 with DOL. Only after PERM certification does your employer file the I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS on your behalf.
How can I find Program Assistant employers who already sponsor green cards?
Use Migrate Mate to search Program Assistant postings filtered by employers with EB-2 and EB-3 PERM filing history. Organizations that have filed PERM for similar roles before are far more likely to sponsor again, since they already have the legal infrastructure and internal approval processes in place.
Can I switch employers during the green card process without losing my progress?
Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date is more than 180 days old, portability under AC21 lets you move to a similar role with a new employer without restarting from zero. For Program Assistant roles, USCIS generally considers positions in program coordination and administrative support within the same occupational category eligible for portability.
