Custodial Worker Green Card Jobs
Custodial worker roles qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, where employers document recruitment efforts before filing an I-140 immigrant visa petition. Facilities management companies, hospitals, universities, and government contractors regularly sponsor foreign nationals in these positions, making direct sponsorship a realistic path to permanent residency.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Custodial Worker
Document your cleaning certifications before applying
PERM requires your employer to prove your qualifications match the job requirements. Credentials like ISSA Cleaning Industry Management Standard or OSHA safety certifications strengthen your profile and give employers a defensible basis for sponsoring you over a U.S. worker.
Target industries with chronic labor shortages
Hospitals, universities, and large commercial real estate firms consistently struggle to fill custodial roles long-term. These employers run PERM recruitment cycles more frequently and often have in-house HR teams already familiar with the DOL labor certification filing process.
Ask employers about their E-Verify enrollment upfront
Employers sponsoring you for a green card must file a PERM application with DOL, and federal contractors are already required to use E-Verify. Confirming E-Verify enrollment early signals an employer has the compliance infrastructure to handle PERM and I-140 filings without delays.
Use OFLC Wage Search to verify your prevailing wage tier
Custodial roles typically fall under wage Level I or II in the OFLC Wage Search. Your employer must pay at least the prevailing wage for your location and job zone, so knowing your tier before negotiations ensures the offered wage won't hold up your PERM certification.
Search for sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Finding custodial employers actively willing to sponsor green cards takes more than a standard job search. Migrate Mate filters opportunities by green card sponsorship history, so you're only spending time on employers who've filed PERM applications in your occupation and region.
Get your I-140 filed while your PERM is still valid
A certified PERM is only valid for 180 days. Your employer must file the I-140 petition with USCIS within that window. Confirm your employer has legal counsel or a filing service ready before PERM certification arrives so you don't lose your priority date.

Find Custodial Worker JobsCustodial Worker Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Can a custodial worker role qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. Custodial worker positions regularly qualify under the EB-3 skilled worker or unskilled worker category depending on the specific duties and experience requirements the employer defines. The employer files a PERM labor certification with DOL to prove no qualified U.S. workers were available, then files an I-140 petition with USCIS. Many facilities, hospitals, and universities have successfully sponsored workers in these roles.
How does green card sponsorship differ from an H-1B for this type of role?
Custodial roles don't qualify for H-1B visas, which require specialty occupation work needing a bachelor's degree. EB-3 green card sponsorship is the appropriate path here. There's no annual lottery, and for many nationalities outside India and China, priority dates at the EB-3 level move relatively quickly. The process leads to permanent residency rather than temporary status with renewal requirements.
How long does the PERM to green card process take for custodial workers?
The PERM audit and certification stage with DOL currently averages several months to over a year depending on whether the application is selected for audit. After PERM certification, your employer files an I-140 with USCIS, followed by adjustment of status or consular processing. Total timelines from PERM filing to a green card vary widely by country of birth and USCIS processing volumes, but nationals from most countries outside high-backlog categories can realistically expect two to four years.
What should I look for in an employer before asking about green card sponsorship?
Prioritize employers with existing compliance infrastructure, such as federal contractors already enrolled in E-Verify, large hospital networks, or universities with dedicated HR immigration teams. These organizations have processed PERM applications before and are less likely to withdraw sponsorship mid-process. Migrate Mate helps you identify employers with documented green card sponsorship history in custodial and facilities roles, narrowing your search to realistic opportunities.
Does the O*NET classification for custodial work affect my green card eligibility?
O*NET job zone classifications inform how DOL categorizes the education and experience requirements for a role during PERM review. Custodial worker duties typically fall in job zones requiring short-to-moderate preparation. Your employer's job description must align with the O*NET profile for the SOC code they use on the PERM application. Mismatches between the actual duties and the stated requirements are a common reason DOL issues PERM audits.
