Green Card Project Specialist Jobs
Project Specialist roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and the employer completes PERM labor certification. Sponsorship timelines vary by country of birth, but the permanent residency outcome sets this path apart from temporary work visas.

Translate your credentials into PERM language
Your degree and job titles need to map cleanly to the DOL's occupational classification before PERM begins. Pull your O*NET profile for Project Specialist to confirm which education and experience requirements support the EB-2 or EB-3 category your employer will file under.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Not every company that hires Project Specialists has navigated the PERM labor certification process before. Filter your search to employers who have filed I-140 petitions for similar roles, since first-time sponsors often underestimate the recruitment documentation DOL requires.
Search for sponsoring roles using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate lets you filter Project Specialist openings specifically by green card sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to employers unfamiliar with EB-2 or EB-3 filings. Use it to build a shortlist before you start outreach.
Clarify the PERM job description before signing
The duties listed in your offer letter must match what DOL approves in the PERM application almost exactly. Ask your prospective employer to share the draft job description early, because discrepancies between the PERM filing and your actual role can invalidate the petition.
Check your priority date against the Visa Bulletin
Once your I-140 is approved, your wait for an immigrant visa number depends on your country of birth, not citizenship. Use the monthly Visa Bulletin from USCIS to track your priority date before accepting a role, especially if you were born in India or China.
Confirm your employer's prevailing wage calculation
DOL requires employers to pay at least the prevailing wage for your specific location and job level before PERM is approved. Run the OFLC Wage Search yourself to verify the wage level your employer is filing under matches the role's actual responsibilities.
Green Card Project Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Project Specialist role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Project Specialist positions qualify under EB-3 when the role requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business, engineering, or IT. EB-2 applies when the position requires an advanced degree or when the employer can demonstrate the role involves work well above a standard bachelor's level. The employer's attorney typically determines the category based on the actual job duties and minimum requirements.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for Project Specialists?
H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant status capped at 85,000 new visas per year, subject to a lottery. EB-3 green card sponsorship has no annual cap on the number of petitions filed, though immigrant visa numbers are limited by country of birth. The PERM process also takes longer than an H-1B filing, but the outcome is permanent residency rather than a two or three year work authorization period.
What does the PERM labor certification process look like for this role?
Your employer files the PERM application with DOL after completing a mandatory recruitment period to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available for the position. DOL reviews the application and, if approved, your employer then files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Only after I-140 approval can you apply for adjustment of status or an immigrant visa, so the full process typically spans one to three years before any permanent residency decision.
How do I find Project Specialist jobs where the employer is already willing to sponsor a green card?
Migrate Mate lets you search Project Specialist openings filtered by employers with a track record of sponsoring employment-based green cards. That matters because PERM is resource-intensive, and employers unfamiliar with the process often decline to sponsor even when they legally could. Starting your search with employers who have done it before significantly shortens the negotiation stage.
Can my employer start PERM while I'm on H-1B status?
Yes, and many Project Specialists do exactly that. There's no requirement to wait until your H-1B is near expiration before beginning PERM. Starting early is practical because H-1B extensions beyond the standard six-year limit are available once your I-140 is approved or your PERM has been pending for 365 days, giving you continued work authorization while the green card process runs its course.
