Green Card Project Architect Jobs
Project Architect roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification, which requires your employer to document that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the position. Architecture firms sponsoring foreign professionals must certify prevailing wage compliance with DOL before filing your I-140 petition.

Match your credentials to PERM requirements
PERM requires your employer to define minimum qualifications before advertising the role. Make sure your foreign degree and licensure align with what the job description states, because inconsistencies between your actual credentials and the posted requirements can trigger an audit.
Target firms with active I-140 filing history
Architecture firms that have sponsored foreign workers before understand PERM timelines and employer obligations. Filter your search to studios and AEC firms with documented employment-based sponsorship history rather than approaching firms that have never navigated the process.
Verify ARE licensure portability across states
Your employer's PERM filing ties you to a specific state and job site. If you hold an Architect Registration Examination license from a different state, confirm reciprocity before accepting an offer, since unlicensed practice can jeopardize the prevailing-wage classification DOL assigns.
Use OFLC Wage Search before salary negotiations
PERM filings require employers to pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Pull the OFLC Wage Search data for your SOC code and metro area so you can enter offer negotiations knowing the minimum wage floor your employer must meet.
Search green-card-sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Project Architect openings specifically by employers offering EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, so you're not spending weeks applying to firms that won't sponsor and only discovering that after the interview stage.
Request a portability clause in your offer letter
Once your I-485 has been pending for 180 days and your I-140 is approved, AC21 portability lets you change employers without restarting the green card process. Negotiating written acknowledgment of this in your offer protects you if the sponsoring firm downsizes before your priority date becomes current.
Green Card Project Architect: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Project Architect role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Project Architect positions qualify for EB-3 as a professional role requiring at least a bachelor's degree in architecture. If the position requires a master's degree or the candidate holds an advanced degree and the employer can justify it, EB-2 classification is possible. The final category depends on how the employer defines the minimum requirements in the PERM job description.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for Project Architects?
H-1B visa sponsorship is temporary and subject to an annual lottery, whereas EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no cap concerns at the petition stage. The tradeoff is time: PERM labor certification alone can take six to eighteen months before USCIS even receives the I-140. For nationals of countries without significant visa backlogs, the total timeline is still often faster than it feels.
What does the PERM process look like for architecture roles?
Your employer files a PERM application with DOL after completing a mandatory recruitment period, typically including print and online job postings plus internal postings. DOL reviews whether any qualified U.S. worker applied and was rejected for unlawful reasons. For Project Architect roles, employers must document that the position genuinely requires architecture-specific skills, not just general design or project management competency.
Where can I find Project Architect jobs that specifically offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Project Architect openings filtered by employers with active EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you can skip the firms that will decline to sponsor once you ask. Targeting employers with prior PERM filings in architecture shortens your job search significantly and increases the likelihood your offer leads to a completed green card filing.
Can my employer start PERM sponsorship while I'm on an H-1B?
Yes. Employers can file PERM on your behalf while you're maintaining valid H-1B status, and many firms begin sponsorship during your first or second year of employment. Starting early matters because PERM, I-140 adjudication, and visa bulletin priority dates can together span several years. Your H-1B can be extended beyond the standard six-year cap once your I-140 is approved and your priority date is within one year of becoming current, per USCIS rules.
