Frame your credentials for PERM requirements
PERM requires your education to match the minimum qualifications the employer advertises. If your degree is in a field adjacent to management consulting, document how your coursework directly supports the role before the labor certification is filed.
Target consulting firms with established PERM pipelines
Large strategy and operations consulting firms routinely sponsor foreign nationals because they hire internationally and understand the PERM process. Firms with dedicated immigration counsel move faster and are less likely to stall mid-process.
Search green card sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate lets you filter Management Consultant roles by employers with active EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you spend time on firms that have already committed to the PERM process rather than cold-targeting employers unfamiliar with it.
Clarify the specialty occupation standard with your employer
PERM requires the role to have a defined minimum degree requirement. Vaguely worded job descriptions listing a degree as preferred rather than required can trigger DOL audit requests, so push for precise language in the job posting before the labor certification is filed.
Understand how EB-3 priority dates affect your timeline
For many nationalities, EB-3 priority dates are current or close to current, meaning the wait between PERM approval and I-485 filing can be short. Check the Visa Bulletin monthly once your I-140 is approved to anticipate when you can file for adjustment of status.
Get your foreign degree evaluated before the offer stage
DOL prevailing wage determinations and PERM filings reference your credentials. A credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization confirming your foreign degree is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's prevents delays when your employer submits the labor certification.
Green Card Management Consultant: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Management Consultant role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Management Consultant positions qualify for EB-3 sponsorship as skilled worker roles requiring at least a bachelor's degree. If the role specifically requires an advanced degree, such as an MBA or a master's in economics or finance, it may qualify under EB-2 instead. Your employer's immigration counsel typically determines the appropriate category based on the job description and your credentials.
How is green card sponsorship different from H-1B for Management Consultants?
H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant visa requiring annual lottery selection and subject to a 65,000 cap. Green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency with no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most nationalities. The tradeoff is time: PERM, I-140, and adjustment of status typically take two to four years, but the outcome is a permanent status rather than a renewable temporary one.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for this role?
Your employer files a PERM application with the DOL certifying that no qualified U.S. workers are available for the Management Consultant position at the prevailing wage. This requires a documented recruitment process, including job postings and candidate review. DOL processing currently runs several months, and audits can extend the timeline further. You cannot begin PERM until you have a formal job offer.
How do I find Management Consultant jobs where the employer will sponsor a green card?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter Management Consultant roles by employers with documented EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, which removes the guesswork of approaching firms that have never filed PERM applications. Targeting employers with an established sponsorship track record significantly shortens the time between offer and I-140 filing.
Can I switch consulting employers after my green card process starts?
Yes, but the rules depend on where you are in the process. If your I-485 has been pending for 180 days or more and your I-140 is approved, AC21 portability lets you change to a similar role without restarting. Before that point, changing employers generally requires your new employer to restart the PERM process from the beginning.
