Document your proposal writing credentials precisely
PERM requires your employer to prove your role demands specific qualifications. Gather degree transcripts, certifications like APMP, and writing samples that map directly to the Proposal Specialist duties listed in your job offer letter.
Target government contractors with PERM history
Defense and federal contracting firms such as Leidos, Booz Allen, and SAIC regularly sponsor Proposal Specialists because proposal functions are core to their operations. Search DOL PERM disclosure data to confirm an employer has filed for this specific role before.
Use Migrate Mate to filter green card sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate by job title and sponsorship type to find Proposal Specialist openings at employers with verified PERM filing history, so you're not guessing which companies will sponsor your green card.
Verify your role qualifies under EB-2 or EB-3
Pull the O*NET profile for Proposal Specialist to confirm the occupation's typical education and experience requirements. EB-2 applies if your position requires an advanced degree; EB-3 covers bachelor's-level roles, which fits most Proposal Specialist job descriptions.
Negotiate PERM filing into your offer early
Raise green card sponsorship during the offer stage, not after you've signed. Ask whether the employer has an established PERM process and a sponsoring law firm, since starting recruitment advertising after hire can add months to your timeline.
Confirm your prevailing wage tier before accepting an offer
PERM requires your employer to pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your location and experience level. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for Proposal Specialist in your metro area before evaluating any offer.
Green Card Proposal Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Proposal Specialist roles typically qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Proposal Specialist positions qualify under EB-3, which covers skilled workers requiring a bachelor's degree. If your role requires a master's degree or equivalent specialized experience, EB-2 may apply. The specific degree requirement written into your job description determines the category, so the exact language in your PERM application matters significantly.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary status renewed in three-year increments and subject to an annual lottery. PERM-based sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no lottery and no renewal cycle. The tradeoff is time: the PERM recruitment and filing process typically takes one to two years before your I-140 is even filed, compared to H-1B's faster but less permanent path.
Which industries sponsor the most Proposal Specialists for green cards?
Federal government contractors account for the highest volume of PERM sponsorship for Proposal Specialists. Defense contractors, IT services firms, and engineering consultancies that depend on government contracts need proposal functions year-round and often have established immigration programs. Professional services firms with large government client rosters are the most consistent sponsors.
How do I find Proposal Specialist jobs where employers will sponsor a green card?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Proposal Specialist openings by sponsorship type. Because PERM filings are public record through DOL disclosure data, Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified green card filing history for this role, letting you focus your applications on companies that have actually sponsored workers rather than those who only say they will.
What happens to my green card process if I change employers after PERM is filed?
If your I-140 petition has been approved for more than 180 days, you can transfer the priority date to a new employer's petition under AC21 portability rules, provided the new role is in the same or similar occupational classification. Leaving before I-140 approval typically means restarting PERM from the beginning with the new employer.
