Psychiatric Nurse Green Card Jobs
Psychiatric Nurse roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires employers to document that no qualified U.S. worker is available before filing an I-140 petition on your behalf. Hospitals, community mental health centers, and inpatient behavioral health units are among the most active sponsors for this specialty.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Psychiatric Nurse
Verify your credentials meet NCLEX requirements
Before any employer can start PERM, your RN license must be valid in the state where you'll work. Foreign-educated nurses typically need a CGFNS credentials evaluation and must pass the NCLEX-RN, so complete both before reaching out to sponsors.
Target inpatient behavioral health units specifically
Psychiatric nursing shortages are most acute in inpatient psychiatric units and forensic facilities. Employers filing PERM for these settings face fewer qualified U.S. applicants, which strengthens the recruitment test and reduces the risk of DOL audit delays.
Search green card sponsorship history on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Psychiatric Nurse roles by employers with active EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history. This surfaces facilities that have already cleared the PERM recruitment process for RN roles, saving you months of outreach to employers unfamiliar with the process.
Confirm prevailing wage tier before accepting an offer
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your SOC code and work location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the Level I through Level IV rates for Psychiatric Technicians and Nurses in your target metro before signing an offer letter.
Ask employers about concurrent I-140 and I-485 filing
If your priority date is current when the I-140 is approved, your employer can file the I-485 adjustment of status concurrently. USCIS allows this, and it can cut months off your total green card timeline compared to sequential filing.
Understand how the PERM audit risk affects your timeline
DOL audits roughly 20 to 30 percent of PERM applications. Behavioral health roles with broad job descriptions are audit-prone. Ask your employer whether they plan to use supervised recruitment and how they document the good-faith recruitment steps required under PERM rules.

Find Psychiatric Nurse JobsPsychiatric Nurse Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Psychiatric Nurse roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Psychiatric Nurse positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers requiring a bachelor's degree or RN licensure. Roles that require a master's degree in psychiatric nursing or a clinical nurse specialist credential can qualify under EB-2 as advanced-degree professionals. Your employer determines which category to use based on the actual job requirements, not your personal credentials alone.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for nurses?
The PERM process leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary work visa, and EB-3 has no annual lottery. H-1B selection is capped at 65,000 per year and subject to a random lottery, while EB-3 sponsorship depends on your country's priority date backlog. For nurses from most countries outside India and China, EB-3 processing timelines are manageable and lottery-free.
How long does the PERM and green card process take for a Psychiatric Nurse?
The full timeline from PERM filing to green card approval typically runs two to four years for nationals of most countries. DOL currently processes PERM applications in roughly six to eighteen months, with audits adding additional time. After PERM approval, the I-140 petition takes several months, followed by an I-485 adjustment of status or consular processing depending on your situation.
Where can I find Psychiatric Nurse jobs where employers are already willing to sponsor a green card?
Migrate Mate lets you search Psychiatric Nurse roles filtered by employers with EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship history. Focusing on facilities that have already filed PERM for RN positions means you're targeting employers who understand the process and have the HR infrastructure to follow through, rather than spending time educating employers unfamiliar with sponsorship.
Can a Psychiatric Nurse start working in the U.S. while the green card application is pending?
Yes, if you're already in the U.S. on a valid work-authorized status such as H-1B or TN, you can continue working while your I-140 and I-485 are pending. Once your I-485 has been pending for 180 days and the I-140 is approved, AC21 portability lets you change employers in the same or similar occupation without restarting the green card process.
