Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Quality Assurance Tester
Match your credentials to the PERM job description
The PERM labor certification locks in the minimum requirements for the role. If your QA experience spans automated testing frameworks like Selenium or test management tools, make sure your resume mirrors the exact degree field and skill set the employer will advertise.
Search for employers with EB-3 filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter QA Tester roles by employers who have filed PERM applications for this occupation before. Repeat sponsors understand the DOL audit process and are far less likely to withdraw sponsorship mid-filing than first-time sponsors.
Verify the prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Your employer must pay at least the DOL-determined prevailing wage for your QA role, location, and experience level. Run the job title and ZIP code through the OFLC Wage Search before signing anything so you can negotiate from an informed position.
Confirm employer E-Verify enrollment early in interviews
PERM-sponsoring employers must be authorized to hire foreign workers, and many are required to use E-Verify. Ask during the offer stage, not after you resign from your current role. An employer that cannot confirm enrollment may not be ready to sponsor.
Understand how your O*NET classification affects EB-2 eligibility
QA Tester roles vary significantly in complexity. Pull the O*NET occupation profile for your specific job title to confirm the required education level and job zone rating, which directly influences whether USCIS will approve the role under EB-2 or EB-3 criteria.
Build a test-evidence portfolio before PERM begins
If your employer receives a DOL audit request, they need evidence the job was legitimately advertised. You should separately document your own qualifications with project artifacts, defect logs, and test plans so you are ready to respond to any USCIS Request for Evidence on the I-140.
Green Card Quality Assurance Tester: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Quality Assurance Tester roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Both categories are possible depending on how the role is defined. EB-3 covers positions requiring a bachelor's degree, which fits most QA Tester job descriptions. EB-2 applies when the role genuinely requires an advanced degree or your employer can demonstrate the position involves specialized responsibilities that go beyond standard testing duties. The PERM labor certification the employer files with the DOL locks in which category applies.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for QA Testers?
Green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary work authorization window. There is no annual lottery at the EB-3 level for most countries, so your petition is not subject to the randomized selection that affects H-1B visa registrants. The overall timeline is longer, often two to four years from PERM filing to green card approval, but the outcome is lawful permanent residency rather than a visa you must renew.
How do I find QA Tester employers who actively sponsor green cards?
Search Migrate Mate to identify employers with a documented history of filing PERM applications for QA or software testing roles. Targeting companies that have sponsored before reduces the risk of an employer backing out when they realize the DOL recruitment and audit requirements involved. Prioritize employers in industries with high QA demand such as fintech, healthcare software, and enterprise SaaS.
Can I switch QA Tester jobs after my employer files the I-140?
Once your I-140 has been approved and has been pending for 180 days or more, federal law allows you to port your priority date to a new employer offering a same or similar role. QA Tester and related software quality positions generally qualify as similar occupations. You and the new employer should confirm with an immigration attorney that the new role meets USCIS portability requirements before you resign.
What role does the DOL prevailing wage play in a QA Tester green card filing?
Before filing the PERM labor certification, your employer must obtain a prevailing wage determination from the DOL covering your job title, location, and experience level. They are required to pay you at least that wage throughout the sponsorship process. You can check the applicable wage range yourself using the OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer, which gives you a concrete benchmark when negotiating compensation.
