Document your HR credentials before applying
Gather transcripts, degree certificates, and any professional HR certifications before you start applying. PERM requires your employer to verify your qualifications meet the posted job requirements, and gaps in documentation can stall the labor certification filing.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Search Migrate Mate to identify companies that have sponsored Recruiting Coordinator roles through PERM before. Repeat filers already have immigration counsel and internal processes in place, which cuts weeks off the sponsorship negotiation at the offer stage.
Confirm the role meets specialty occupation standards
Review the O*NET profile for Recruiting Coordinator to verify the position is typically classified as requiring a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Employers must define the minimum requirements precisely in the PERM application, and vague job descriptions invite DOL audit requests.
Ask about EB-2 versus EB-3 routing before signing
Raise the EB-2 or EB-3 classification question before you accept an offer, not after. If your background qualifies under EB-2 as an advanced-degree professional, that category can offer a shorter priority date wait for certain countries compared to EB-3 skilled worker.
Understand the PERM recruitment timeline upfront
PERM requires your employer to run a DOL-prescribed recruitment campaign before filing. That process alone takes roughly 60 to 90 days. Factor this into your timeline if you're transitioning from another visa status and have a filing deadline approaching.
Verify the prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Look up the PERM prevailing wage for your target metro area using the OFLC Wage Search before salary discussions begin. USCIS requires your offered wage to meet or exceed that figure throughout the green card process, so accepting below it can jeopardize the filing later.
Green Card Recruiting Coordinator: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Recruiting Coordinator roles typically qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Recruiting Coordinator positions qualify under EB-3 as professional roles requiring a bachelor's degree. If you hold a master's degree in human resources or a related field, your employer may route the petition through EB-2 instead. The classification affects your priority date, which determines how long you wait for a visa number to become available based on your country of birth.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for Recruiting Coordinators?
Green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency, not a temporary work authorization that expires. Unlike the H-1B visa, there is no annual lottery for EB-3 petitions, and there is no cap on how many I-140 petitions USCIS can approve each year. The tradeoff is timeline: the PERM labor certification, I-140, and adjustment of status process typically takes two to four years for most countries, longer for India and China due to visa backlogs.
Can I search specifically for Recruiting Coordinator jobs that sponsor green cards?
Yes. Migrate Mate lets you filter job listings by green card sponsorship history so you only see employers who have filed PERM applications for this type of role before. That filters out companies that say they are open to sponsorship in principle but have no track record of actually completing the process for HR and recruiting positions.
What does the PERM labor certification process look like for a Recruiting Coordinator employer?
Your employer must conduct a DOL-mandated recruitment campaign to confirm no qualified U.S. workers are available for the role. This involves specific job postings, a set waiting period, and documentation of all applicants reviewed. The employer then files the ETA Form 9089 with DOL. Analyst review at DOL is currently averaging several months, and an audit request can add significant additional time.
What happens to my green card sponsorship if I change jobs during the process?
If you change employers before your I-140 is approved, the PERM filing is generally abandoned and the new employer must restart from scratch. Once your I-140 has been approved for at least 180 days and your priority date is current or nearly current, portability rules under AC21 may allow you to transfer the petition to a new employer in a same or similar role, including another Recruiting Coordinator position.
